Calculate % Comp but retain dependencies

Hello. This seems simple, but it's stumping me. I have a project Gantt chart, and some of the child tasks are simple numerical completions of tasks. In other words, if I have 300 of a certain thing that need to be done, and if I have a user input that he or she has completed 100 of these, I can calculate a completion percentage of 33%. However, I'd also like this calculated value to be linked to the master % Comp column for this task, but SmartSheet won't allow this without me removing the dependency to Predecessor in the project settings for the % Comp column, and this defeats the purpose of what I am doing.

Smartsheet does not currently allow formulas in any of the columns tied to the Project Settings.

Either the user determines the % Complete or provide them with the calculated value and let them enter the data in both cells (# Completed and % Completed)

Craig, OK, that's what I was afraid of, and that's what I'm having them do presently. Not a very elegant solution, or as we engineers call it, a kludge.

Depending on number of sheets and /or number of times the data is updated, the [% Complete] of non-parent rows can be updated via the API or third party tools like Zapier (www.zapier.com)
