New here, general questions
Hi, Do you have to write all the functions yourself or are there tools to help with the process. I need to do a xlookup index and matching update to another sheet. I'm use to work with ablebits tools.
While I'm here, it is possible to upload to a file to overwrite (update) data on a current sheet?
Can I sync two sheets so when one updates both will update?
Where do I find a list of app's I can use, if those are available?
Thank you
Kim

Check out this dashboard for your for a list of formulas with examples. I have it saved in my folder for easy reference. Also when you start typing = and the formula name, a little window will pop up with some information to help you.

Hi @Kimbersh
Welcome! 🙂
There a number of resources that can help you as you're starting out with Smartsheet, especially with formulas. I would recommend downloading the Formula Template (see here) so you see how the functions work in real-time in your sheets.
There are also some free Webinars on formulas, here: Formulas webinar series
If you have access to it, the Smartsheet University has a number of eLearning tutorial courses as well: https://smartu.smartsheet.com/
And of course, this Community is a great resource, too! There are a few posts on INDEX(MATCH formulas:
Index Collect (two criteria or more)
For your questions:
- Importing in or uploading a file into Smartsheet will create a New Sheet each time (see: Import Files to Create New Sheets)
- However, there is an add-on that your organization may have purchased with Smartsheet called Data Shuttle which can Update a current sheet instead. (Data Shuttle)
In terms of syncing two Smartsheet sheets together, you can either use cross-sheet formulas (like the INDEX(MATCH mentioned above) or Cell Linking, but these would be a one-way sync, with a Source Sheet and a Destination Sheet. (Cell Links: Consolidate or Maintain Consistency of Data)
You may want to look into creating Reports instead (SmartStart: Reporting)
I would highly recommend reviewing the Onboarding Webinars as you get started with Smartsheet.
Cheers!
