Data Mesh: Copy Data vs Create Cell Links?

I am new to Data Mesh and I believe it is the answer to many projects I have. I am looking for more information/explanation regarding whether to choose Copy Data or Create Cell Links? It appears in my testing that they function the same. What am I missing?

Thank you!

    Hi @amschock

The Cell links and Copy and add data works the same in the Data Mesh in terms of adding the data.

In the Cell links option controls whether you want the data to be actively synced with the Cell Link functionality from the source sheet or copied over from the source sheet.

The Copy and Add Data option will copy over lookup values that match between the source and target sheets, but will also add new lookup values from the source sheet that don’t have a matching lookup value in the target sheet.

It depends on what is the end use of the data. If you want your destination data to be always updated, it is better to create cell links.

  • Thank you for your response, @Amit Wadhwani.

My testing shows that copy data also updates the destination sheet, repeatedly, when the data is changed in the source sheet... just like a cell link. The two are functioning the same for me?

My testing this does not work. Copy and Add was needed to add new data.

Only using Cell Link does NOT add data to the target sheet. Something must have changed since this was answered.
