Assigned to // Contact List

Hi all,

I have an equipment tracker sheet that has an Assigned To column set as Contact List.

I came to realize that regardless this sheet is not shared with them, they are able to change/edit/modify the cells of this tracker sheet.

I don't want anybody to edit those cells except the ones that are already in the shared list with edit rights.

Is there a way to avoid this? Otherwise I'll change column properties from contact list to normal, but if I do that, my automation will not work, as there is an automation that sends weekly reports to the asset owners (assigned to//contact list).

They should not be able to change anything if they are not shared to the sheet. Is the sheet in a workspace that they are shared to or are they part of a group that is shared to a sheet?

How exactly are they accessing it to change it?

Hi Paul, not at all, those contacts are neither in the workspace sharing, or in the sheet sharing. I need to resolve this issue asap

@Paul Newcome I came to find out the way, you can see above.

On the automated Smartsheet mails, there is section that allows them to reach the sheet and update it.

Here is the screenshot of my automation below

While I was checking the automation, I already noticed my mistake and fixed it, I don't know how, Request an Update was chosen as the action item and that allowed them to edit sheet. Now I changed it as Alert someone, and I don't think it should be an issue now. Thank you
