Unbelievable that tagging isn't an option in WorkApps. It makes this "upgrade" entirely unusable. Given that it is not, I agree with SJ Sellers above, I would never have purchased this add-on.

I made a post about my specific case, this may help some who are trying to @mention people in WorkApps using Dynamic views. @Mentions in Dynamic Views in WorkApps — Smartsheet Community

Yes, while you can @tag someone in a dynamic view in a workapp, you have to 1) types their complete email and 2) there is no ability to add someone as a commenter through the workapp. THe pop up only appears thru a base sheet or report.

Conversations for auditing and history are huge, so you either have to add everyone you can think off as a commenter and then still have to type their email out.

WOW, had I known, I would never have moved my processes to the Workapp. I was very excited by the ability to determine who sees what as well as what they can access but I'm finding WorkApps to be less than desirable. Users can't double click on a chart in a dashboard to open a report - well that's a massive change from how they've been using dashboards. They can't comment back and forth with those managing the process? That's a massive loss in ease of use and rather than keeping all information and communication within Smartsheet this sends them back to email. This is an incredible misstep on the part of Smartsheet.

As this on the roadmap now, I'd like to move my other post in here to ensure Smartsheet development team sees this case. I will also put it in the EAP feedback.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    My Case:

We have developed a ticket system in sheets that filter to a report and then connected in a dynamic view. We add the dynamic view to a WorkApps that is partner facing. Partners are only shared to the WorkApps to see/work the tickets. They can edit certain cells, see attachments, change status', etc in the dynamic view. As it sits, if they aren't shared to the underline sheet, you cannot use the popup of "@mention ability" in the WorkApps, see image below.

Through testing in the same above case, if a user is only shared with the WorkApps and you can manually type their full email address like so "@mhalvey@central-payments.com" and hit space, the text will change color and the email @mention alert will still go through to that user, see image below.

This is the current direction my team is working with, it's not ideal but we are working with it. I'm wondering if anyone has any other insight or thoughts on a workaround for @mentions on dynamic views to front facing partners outside your company? WorkApps and Dynamic View are such wonderful tools for showing only specific assets, editing certain cells, etc. however when trying to keep all communication in the row, it falls short.

Which takes to me to my final point, even if you share the underlining sheet or not, all the email alerts for @mentions will have links to the source sheet and not the WorkApps or Dynamic View in the WorkApps. This causes a lot of confusion and incorrect clicking of links/access requests, especially for front facing to partners who don't work in Smartsheet daily.

I'd love to hear others thoughts on this and ways you work through this if you share assets outside your organization and having users communicate in them.

    Thank you for your time,

    Michael

Is this also going to be available for Dynamic View??

Agree with all that's mentioned above. Full functionality of mentions is necessary for our work.

Loved this addition in EAP, as do our clients - seems like a basic feature but its fundamental for communication and collaboration.

  • I am part of EAP and @ mention doesn't work for me.

    Has it been disabled?

  • I have noticed @ mention only works on sheets. Reports still don't support it.

Doe's anyone know if @ mention will be enabled for reports and when?

Great to see voting for this idea is changed to open! I hope this feature gets added into the system in the near future. My team uses WorkApps and Dynamic views internal and externally with vendors to "keep it simple" and get people to where they need to be asap instead of fishing through thousands of files in workspaces or using the search bar.

Multiple times a week people will try to @mention in comments in both the WorkApps or Dynamic Views inside a WorkApps and the amount of bounce back clicks I get from people who aren't shared with the source sheets. I get the User Access requested email and have to explain "No, please don't click this link, please go to the WorkApps and find the row in the dynamic view to respond or work the ticket you've been assigned."

I've actually ended up filtering those emails in Outlook and setup an auto reply through Power Automate to explain how to find your comment in WorkApps.

There has to be a way to allow these premium applications the ability to @mention and have the response go to them from the email alert. This current state has halted us from removing other various software's and rolling out ticket management systems in multiple other departments. We just can't have teams have access to the source sheets or ability to view all the hidden columns in a sheet due to sensitive nature.

Not seeing the "Try New Experience" with Project WorkApps coming from Control Center. When is a WorkApp not a WorkApp?
