Currently, the request update workflows allow us to gather information and collaborate effectively. However, I've noticed that the absence of logic and helper texts, similar to what we have in form creation, can sometimes lead to confusion for users and make the process less intuitive. Therefore, I would like to propose the addition of logic and helper texts to the request update workflows.
Logic: The ability to add conditional logic within the request update workflows would be immensely helpful. For instance, if certain criteria are met within the form, specific questions or fields could be displayed based on user responses. This would not only streamline the data collection process but also make the workflow more adaptive and user-friendly.
Helper Texts: Including helper texts, similar to what we find in form creation, would provide users with valuable context and guidance as they complete the request update workflows. These helper texts can offer explanations for specific questions, provide examples of desired responses, and ensure that users understand the purpose and importance of each field. This would significantly reduce errors and misunderstandings during data entry.
By implementing these enhancements, Smartsheet could empower users to create more sophisticated and efficient request update workflows, leading to improved collaboration, accurate data collection, and enhanced user experience.
Update Request Customization - descriptions and headers like a Form
The update requests are not always easy to explain with the limitations in the column header. It would be very beneficial and extremely useful to allow the user to create update requests like you would a form.

I want to send an update form that is customised like a standard row creation form. There are enough discussion topics with people asking for this or similar functionality. Please bump this up the to do list.
At the moment you only get the field description, no help text.
It is impossible to create multiline text entry boxes.
Make fields clearly read only when they are locked.

As with a form, it would be nice to have some type of help text the user can see when filling out the update request form. This will drastically improve the user experience and help us add value to users we ask to update data on our sheets.

When setting up an automation to send out an update request that includes an Attachment field, having the ability to modify the text and help text would improve this feature greatly. In my use case, I can then create an initial intake form, and have the update request mimic the form and ensure it includes all the necessary details for the attachment field and how to properly use it.

If you put the details (text and help text) in a helper column on every row, which you could do by an automation or data mesh, then you could include the details in the update buy using the {{field name}}

I would like to see this implemented; I need to send update requests to my team leads, and I want to make it as simple and straightforward as possible. Right now the column headers aren't able to be descriptive enough. Additionally, it would be helpful to add conditional logic --e.g. if they check the box for Roadblock, I want to open up a free text field they can use to describe that roadblock.

Right now all forms are In Take forms. Simply allow to select a form for an Update Request. Then, the labels, descriptions, help, logic, validation, hidden fields, etc., will be applied when updating the row.

This would be a huge improvement to update requests, I would also like to see this soon. I especially like Luis Martinez Ruiz's suggestion to just leverage forms so there is no need to learn different methods for update requests and initial data requests.

Logic and Helper Texts are already implemented in Forms. As I mentioned earlier, current Forms are only In Take forms. By simply allow the developer to select an existing Form when defining an Update Request, its logic, helper texts, labels, validations, hidden fields, etc., will be applied when updating the row.
