I would love to see this too. Too many workspaces are causing me headaches.
Okay, I'll chime in with my particular use case for this:
As a freelance business operations consultant, I'm finding a lot of work building out Smartsheet solutions for my clients.
These typically fall into a few categories:
As you can imagine, with even only a handful of active clients using Smartsheet, my Browse panel is horrendous, and this is before you factor in my own Smartsheet items.
I have no problem organizing the standalone shared files into folders, but the shared workspaces have gotten out of hand, and I struggle to quickly navigate from one workspace to another when moving from project to project throughout the day.
I would love, love, love the ability to bundle workspaces together into parent folders or spaces. With this, I could have bundles for:
What would really make such an enhancement sing would be the ability to bundle items from the Sheets folder in Browse AND Workspaces together that doesn't involve putting the standalone items into a workspace.
Heck, even a means to import our file tree into a sheet that we could arrange, filter, and use would be amazing, particularly if it remained synced in real-time. I began to attempt this on my own, but the painstaking process of manually copying and pasting hundreds of links was far too tedious, not to mention the effort it would have taken to keep said sheet up-to-date. The more I think about this, the more I think this would be even more ideal than nestable workspaces—possibly easier to implement than revamping the Browse panel's functionality, even.
Community, what do you think?

While folders would be great - any way to bucket and/or sort workspaces is needed. Can we get an update on where it is on the roadmap/priorities?
See my previous comment (8/7/23). I also submitted this as a formal enhancement request several years ago and mention it every time I speak with our account manager, sales team, etc. After this much time and the widespread interest in this capability across the customer base, I simply do not understand the resistance to adding this to the development roadmap.
This would eliminate so much chaos in Workspace areas! I have to create multiple workspaces for different share teams and it confuses those that are shared to multiple.
The ability to group Workspaces within Workspaces is such a necessity. I am surprised this hasn't been implemented long ago.
My co-worker was telling me to reach out to Smartsheet directly to find out how to create different workspace folders. He assumed this feature would definitley be available since it is a basic way to keep an endless list of workspaces organized. And then I stumbled across this thread. I hope more people comment on this chain so Smartsheet adds this feature.
We're in the midst of adding a sister branch in our subsidiary company to our current Smartsheet solution. We will be working in different Workspaces, and it would have made a huge difference if we could divide the Workspaces of the two companies into groups. Now, those of us who are admins and supports will have to constantly keep our focus in making sure things are linked up correctly across all Workspaces in two companies.
We simply can't have fewer Workspaces, as we need to be able to share certain folders with certain members.
Our organization uses Workspaces for each customer implementation. As part of our SOPs for Smartsheets, I have instructed our Implementation Managers to name their Workspaces with this naming convention: [IM Name] - [Customer Name]. This allows the Workspaces to be grouped in a more meaningful way for us.
As part of the Project Closeout process, I have instructed our IMs to rename the Workspace to add "zzCompleted" ex. zzCompleted - ABC Company. This (1) groups all completed projects together and (2) Puts them at the very bottom of the Workspace list.
If not a folder level Permission, the ability to create "sub" or "child" workspaces within a workspace would be nice to have, especially on the gov side.
If I have one whole process, being able to break it down into smaller junk but still under the same "parent workspace" would help to keep permissions a bit cleaner. Especially, if the person has access as an admin to a bunch of workspaces.
This is one of those basic features that I'm surprised is missing. I have a number of worksheets that have been shared to me that I don't use regularly but are cluttering my worksheet list. I would love to put them in a folder so that they're out of the way but easy to find if needed. Please make this happen.
I have a lot of workspaces active for a lot of initiatives, it would be great to have a tab/label/folder to store my workspaces depending on my personal criteria for grouping them.
This would help reduce clutter and let me find where I need to work even faster because adding everything to favorites will eventually become cumbersome as well.

This would be of tremendous value to many of my clients - particularly as we scale within Enterprise organizations and have a plethora of Smartsheet assets. It then becomes juggling permissions with new workspaces etc. or at the granular level - I see this mostly when information is sensitive and has a restricted audience - as we scale, teams begin to configure so many permissions and add new workspaces etc. to manage that it becomes a bit chaotic for them to not only manage permissions but for individuals to navigate to respective assets. This would be a welcomed feature to navigate this!
I am beginning to find the need to be able to bucket/sort/folder-ize/organize workspaces in a better way for our company as well. With multiple different departments and teams with their own unique use cases for Smartsheet, the workspace area is becoming long and hard to navigate quickly. It would be great for users to be able to organize these more or even have nested workspaces to allow me to organize the department's workspaces but only share specific team workspaces to each team.
Hi All,
It would be great if we could group workspaces OR be able to share certain Folders in Workspaces with certain people. We need to be able to share certain Folders/ Workspaces with certain people separately. Since we can't share folders separately with seperate people under one workspace, I need to create 20 workspaces for 20 different people. Since I cannot group workspaces in a folder, I have a long list Workspaces now…
Thank you
