I'd like there to be a new option in the dashboard widget settings to allow the choice of whether shortcut links are opened in a new tab or the same tab.
This includes Smartsheet items (which currently don't open in new tab).

I would find this very useful also. All you would need is a check box ("Open in new tab") in the widget behavior edit screen screen to add that option.
Is that possible to do?
Completely agree with the request and need, and understand and agree with the tediousness of getting URL's for the suggested workaround. Have a slightly different 'solution' approach suggestion.
Put the setting to 'open in a separate window' at the dashboard level instead of the widget level. It would be a perfect solution for dashboards that are used as the HOME page/central hub for projects and team. As a single for the dashboard setting would eliminate the need to gather specific URL's for EVERY smartsheet related link or clickable object (e.g. 'open source data' option on included reports), and ensure consistency of behavior for everything on the dashboard. It could potentially be easier and simplier to implement by limiting the number of items (widgets) that would need to be updated to support it.
I need this too, but Smartsheet will take 5 years to implement this tiny setting.
+1 on this. It would be helpful for Smartsheet Items added in the Shortcut Widget to have an option to open in the same tab or new tab.
Right click not supported on links in dashboards. I would like to open a new tab while keeping my dashboard open, instead of navigating back.

Often a dashboard is a landing page for a smartsheet ecosystem. I want to always have my dashboard available. Everytime I follow a link on my dashboard, I loose my dashboard, and have to open a new dashboard. Lets have the option for a link to open in a new tab, rather than the existing tab.
AT LEAST ALLOW FOR the right click option on dashboard links!! It seems to be surpressed.
The simple upgrade of allowing me to set dashboards to open Smartsheet items in a new tab would save me insane amounts of time as I constantly have to duplicate my dashboard tab before opening any of the links within it - it almost makes the dashboard not useful.
In regards to the work-around - I hate using Smartsheet in the browser, I use it in the app - therefore setting up URLs would open the Smartsheet items in my browser, not in the app where I prefer to work, so it is not a functional workaround for me.
