New form submission appear on any row in a sheet
It would be nice instead of just the top of the sheet or bottom of the sheet to designate where a new form submission appears. Having the ability to pick a row to have the new submissions appear. Every new submission would then push all the current data down a row. i.e if I want a new form submission to come in to row 5, any data that is currently in rows 5,6, and 7, would now appear in rows 6,7, and 8 and the new request would appear in row 5.
Column Dependencies and Formula Auditing
I wish there was a way to select a column/ cell and see all formulas and automations that reference it. Similar to Excel's "Trace Dependents" and "Trace Precedents." This could all be part of a formula auditing tool that would let you see all formulas on a sheet and which column they are in.
INVALID COLUMN error in "Alert Someone" Automation
Our team uses template project folders to easily create each projects schedule and trackers. We use the "Save as New" functionality attaching all reports to the newly created folders.
Recently, after saving as new we are getting this "Unable to Run" notification for the automated notifications within our schedule. When checking the issue icon, it's referring to permissions.
However, when we open the automation and scroll down to where the message exists we're getting this INVALID COLUMN error in our message in place of all column names. This is causing major issues as our team isn't getting notifications for tasks. The current solve is manual to update once we create a new project from the template.
Any thoughts on why this error is occurring and how we might be able to fix it? Thanks!
Send Alert with Attachment but Without Link to Sheet
After a New Hire approves a contract (which include the contract as an attachment), I want to send a follow-up alert confirming they approved the contract and include the attachment again. I've received emails from New Hires saying they didn't download the contract before they clicked Approve in the approval request.
However, I see the only thing I can do is include a link to the sheet and select specific fields (including attachments). The New Hire is not in our organization and thus would not have a Smartsheet account let alone access to the sheet. It would be confusing for the New Hire to see a link to the sheet.
Is there a way to just include the attachment (like in an approval request) without including a link to the sheet as well?
Smartsheet Form <> DocuSign Integration: Transmit Uploaded Files
Currently, the Smartsheet <> DocuSign integration allows Smartsheet users to map a Smartsheet form to a DocuSign template for efficient e-signature workflows. However, while a user can upload files to a Smartsheet form, those uploaded files can't be transmitted to DocuSign via mapping / integration, meaning the e-signers aren't able to preview those uploaded files prior to e-signing. My idea is to enhance the integration to allow for files uploaded to a Smartsheet form to be transmitted to a mapped DocuSign template.
Re: Dynamic Views in Control Center
This would be a major time saver and allow us to make a full pivot from Reports in our workspace deployments- we deploy between 30-50 per year with a same Toolkit set. Today, we only use Dynamic View for assets that do not need to go through Control Center- it's a build decision point. We prefer DV for improved control and sharing, but it's truly a pain to deploy.
Are there workarounds for Autosave prematurely triggering automations in Board View?
My PMs are noticing that Autosave in Board View is triggering automations for sending the assigned person updates on their tasks before the PM has finished making updates to all necessary information on the card. This is causing folks to receive incomplete information in their assignment notifications. Is there a way to extend the Autosave time? Or a workaround to make sure that the Autosave doesn't jump the gun on an automation?
Re: Best Practices on Managing Changes to Smartsheet Items
In Smartsheet, the "Save as Template" feature allows you to re-use your project structure (sheets, reports, dashboards) so you can create standardized, repeatable workflows. This is especially helpful when you're managing multiple similar projects and want to avoid rebuilding from scratch.
How to Use “Save as Template” in Smartsheet
🔹 For Sheets:
- Open the sheet you want to turn into a template.
- Go to File > Save as Template.
- Name your template and save it to a workspace or folder.
- This saves only the structure: columns, formatting, formulas, and dropdowns — no row data (unless you select to retain it).
📌 Templates for sheets do not include attachments, comments, or cell history.
If your organization has access to Smartsheet Control Center, this is the gold standard:
Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
Global Updates | Push column changes, formulas, widget updates to all projects |
Blueprint Management | Update templates once and push changes at scale |
Metadata + Summary Fields | Manage cross-project visibility and governance |
Intake → Provisioning | New projects auto-provision from latest templates |
📌 If you're not using Control Center but qualify (licensed with Advance), it’s worth the investment in time savings alone.

Hi,
I hope you're well and safe!
I'd recommend exploring the Premium App, Control Center. It's a game changer!
Is that an option?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic day!
