How can I filter and sort by date in a dynamic view?
I've looked through the forums and see that filtering and sorting by dates in Dynamic view isn't a feature. Has anyone found a work around for that within the sheet you're pulling the data from?
I need to be able to have a checklist maintained and the date displayed in the dynamic view. It's easy enough to set that up, but it's entirely reliant on the fact that someone is constantly sorting the source sheet so the most recent date is on the top. Is there a way to auto-sort my source sheet? Is there a way to also be able to create a filter in the source sheet to pull in the current week's dates or something to that affect?

You can create a report from the working sheet. That report will auto-sort and can be referenced in your Dynamic View to keep the Dynamic View sorted.

@Paul Newcome In this instance I think that still poses a limitation for my situation within dynamic view as I need to also have a an editable checklist. I don't think it's possible to build a dynamic view off a report and a sheet. Is that true?
In the screenshot below you can see the date are all out of order. Sorting in the Smartsheet will obviously put them in order, but if someone doesn't do that it's going to create issues for the audience that needs to view this sheet. To the far right is the checklist I'm referring to.

If you include that checklist in the Report that feeds the Dynamic View, those boxes should still be editable. I use this method pretty frequently where I need to have a filtered view for someone to fill information out without actually giving them access to the sheet itself.

@Paul Newcome For some reason I thought that wasn't possible so I'm going through it right now. Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.

I actually just did a demo of it a couple of hours ago to a client, so it was still fresh on my mind. Haha. Feel free to update with the outcome.

@Paul Newcome I set it up and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much.
As long as I have my view set up correctly, I shouldn't have to share the underlying source sheets for them to see the data, correct? I don't want to create an issue where I now have to grant permissions to that sheet/report when I'm trying to void that.

Correct. The permissions for the Dynamic View are completely separate from the underlying data.

Hi @BethWork
I hope you're well and safe!
To add to Paul's excellent advice/answer.
Another option could be the Premium App, WorkApps, where you can have a report showing only what's available for the current user.
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

@Andrée Starå Why purchase WorkApps when they already have Dynamic View and Dynamic View will work for what they need though?
-
It's another option, and if they have Enterprise Licenses, they already have access, and it could be a better solution depending on the specifics.
