Automatically Include Current Date in a Form Field on Templates

I have a form I use for data collection. In one form, it has a start date which would always be the current date. I cannot find a way to have the template always use the current date the form is generated. Instead, I have to edit the form each time I use it to add the current date, then make sure it is hidden on the form so it doesn't get changed. Is there a way to do this automatically, if not, can we have on created?

You could have a Workflow register the date as soon as the form is submitted.
