Change in ownership, but the creator of this sheet is still being pinged. Aside from "save as new" under new owner account, any suggestions to correct this routing?
Did you transfer ownership of the sheet? Also, if you have any automations, you will want to edit each one to make sure it isn't sending to the old owner.

@Kleerfyre yes I did transfer ownership, and your suggestion to edit each automation, is that a bug or by design?
It depends on how the automation was set up. If it was set to send to a specific person, that will not change no matter ownership or changes of ownership. If it was set to send to owner, then you will just need to verify that it didn't carry over the old owner.
The automation is sending an email via a contact list. The owner is being pinged in this case because the person that the notification is being sent to does not have access to the sheet. Another fun fact, the original owner was not the most recent person to modify this automation. Thanks

Based on the Trigger of your workflow, the email will be "from" either the person who created the trigger (e.g. the person that selects whoever is Assigned) or the Sheet owner (if multiple rows are assigned at the same time).
