I love Smartsheet's features. When I left my corporate job to strike out as a freelancer, using Smartsheet as one of my primary management tools felt like a no-brainer.
Unfortunately there are some features I want to use (e.g., grouping on reports and sheet summaries) that are exclusive to the business plan, which has a minimum of 3 licenses.
I would be happy to pay the additional charge per year on my license for these Business features, but as a single-person operation, I can't justify paying for two extra licenses that I do not need, just to get these features.
I spoke with an account manager about this, but the only option was for me to pay for 3 licenses and not use two of them. I can't imagine I'm the only user who would love this option, so I'm hoping that Smartsheet will throw a bone to us extra-small businesses out here.
Cheers,
Justin
I feel the same way about this. I can't afford to pay for the extra 2 licenses, but I need those features for work as well.
I am in a similar postion and work independantly so only require one license. Happy to pay for extra features but not for 2 additional licenses.
Likewise, I'm in the same position. With Pro, I find reports and dashboards in particular are of seriously limited use given their potential. But, when the jump is from €72p/a to €792p/a I just can't do that right now.
Is there anyone out there who would be open to co-owning three business licenses?
yes - if the licences permit it and we're not in breach of any of the smartsheet agreements. IN the meantime im going to look at Monday….
I keep getting notifications of replies of folks looking for this change. Maybe it hasn't been rolled out to all users, but as far as I know, it was already implemented back in February 2024.
HI @Justin Clark I raised this with Smartsheet yesterday and was told:
I want to inform you that it is not possible to maintain a business account with only one user. This is a fundamental system requirement designed to ensure the proper functionality and management of business accounts. Unfortunately, we are unable to make exceptions to this rule, as it is integral to the system’s architecture. We understand that this may be an inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
"proper functionality and management of business accounts" probably means - "don't allow purchase of a single account for multiple users to share!" and "integral to the systems architecture" probably means… who the hell knows what that means 😂
Sadly I'm going to have to bite the bullet and purchase 3 licences as I want/need some of the functionality but don't have to time to start finding another product to help. If anyone @ricktharms1973, @patrickcahill_0, @BRoukin, @Isabel RA) looking for a Pro licence, I'd be happy to have a conversation!
Another Smartsheet fan here being forced to scope out competition because of the way the packages are bundled. I have been getting more involved in the community, taking Smartsheet University courses and using Smartsheet for creative new things at work… but I feel like Smartsheet just told me they will not support my small side business, and I am very disheartened.
Sad to say, I am leaving Smartsheets (side hustle). It's not the money per se, but I just have a hard time paying 3x for the features. I think if Smartsheets had a pricing tier that was more expensive for the 1 user, then maybe. It maybe irrational, but I just can't. I'll also be asking my company (day job) to migrate out of Smartsheets.
