Update assignments in template based on sheet

How can I assign ownership to tasks based on contacts in a sheet? For example - I have a list of contacts that define the owner of each area for every project. As I am creating a new project from a template, I would like to lookup the owners for the tasks based on the information in the sheet.

Example - project below would be updated based on the master resource sheet.

You could use cross-sheet formulas combined with either a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH structure to connect the sheets, and when you update the source sheet, it will reflect on the destination sheet.

That would work to populate a name in the field. I thought there might be a more elegant solution with resource planning since I'm assigning the same resource to multiple projects. I may have to setup pages and formulas to accomplish a drop down menu.
