Global Update to Dashboard

We have a number of projects that are being tracked. I made a change to the dashboard template, but now want to update the existing project dashboards to reflect he change. Could someone please give me instructions on how to do that? When I go to the Control Center and select "Update Dashboards" it does not work. I am thinking I am missing a step.
