Asana integration

Smartsheet is more of a Project Management platform and is very flexible, but I've tried and I can't get it to be as good as Asana for the team to use delegating and ticking off tasks.
I offload most tasks (action points) to Asana for staff to complete and would love to be able to have those track back to a single sheet in SS. I've tried with several integrators to connect one project in Asana with one sheet in Smartsheet. I can get new tasks in Asana sent over to SS no worries using Zapier, Skyvia, Make. However, I fall down at the updating hurdle. I would settle for completed tasks in Asana updating the row in SS to Completed, but would prefer if the Notes, Name (Asana's term for task), and Assignee were also updated. I've tried mapping the Asana ID and Name, but neither are found. Has anyone managed to map Asana tasks to SS rows?

Typically if its not an absolute requirement to use both, i would stick to 1 PM tool.

its beyond mt desl but i think you could use Bridge and or the ali to accompish most of it?

Can use the Smartsheet API to accomplish this, although its a lot of effort for a solution which is feasible in one or other of each of the tools - what is the benefit you are trying to get out of utilising both?

You will need to utilize quite a bit of trickery to get updates across systems as Asana does not have the best data model for custom fields which is needed to represent the api ID of the Smartsheet Row and Sheet that needs to be updaed. Again you can do it but its ugly cause you need to use details, comments, task name, tags, etc to store this information - none of which is particularly secure or reliable for critical path data like IDs. This will become a larger issue if you need to do bi-directional syncing and conflict resolution as you won't have hash values or reliable time stamps to manage that in both system (only in SMAR… and even that isn't ideal).

Having said that, it might be possible to get the outcome that you want using just Make.com or Zapier - the hot tip is to write the Smartsheet row ID of the task into Asana. As @prime_nathaniel mentioned, this might require some creative use of other fields, however, it's often possible to get an update workflow built IF you have the Smartsheet row ID available.
