Pull dropdown menu options from one sheet into another based on a defined cell

Hello,

I am curious if there is a way for Smartsheet to populate a designated column in one sheet with dropdown options from another sheet based on the conditions of a cell in the sheet the dropdown should appear in. For instance, if Sheet A has a specific value in the cell, you can pull in the dropdown menu from Sheet B into a different cell in a corresponding column. So, something along the lines of "only show me the dropdown options of Sheet B, column 1 IN Sheet A, column 5 IF Sheet A, column 1 has the value X" I have a picture too of what I'm thinking I'm trying to do. I want to be able to select options from the dropdown list of a column in Sheet B that is feeding into Sheet A. Thank you!

@Miriam Nothing built into Smartsheet Core. If you have Smartsheet Bridge you could work something up, or there is this Dropdown Manager available that may do what you want, if I follow your example correctly :)

Thanks, Darren. I was hoping there'd be something built in. I appreciate your response!

    Hi @Miriam

This is an old comment, but it may be useful for some users wanting dynamic dropdown list-like features with the core capabilities.

    In short, the solution displays a cell like the one below to let users choose 03 for Japan, for example;

    01 China
    02 Korea
    03 Japan
    04 USA

    1. Automatic List Updates:
      • Users frequently request a feature to link dropdown lists to a master sheet, allowing changes to the master sheet to be automatically reflected in all linked dropdown lists.
      • Since this functionality is unavailable, users must manually update the lists, creating inefficiencies.
    2. Dynamic Dropdown Lists:
      • Users seek dropdown lists that change dynamically based on previous selections. While some workarounds exist, such as using form logic, they require pre-configured columns and work only in specific contexts like forms.

    Workarounds and Proposed Solutions:

    • Numeric ID-Based Dropdown Lists:
      • A method where users select items by entering corresponding two-digit numeric IDs. This approach is less intuitive than direct selection but simplifies input for large lists.
      • A sample dashboard demonstrating this approach is shared via Smartsheet.
    • Improved Display of Candidate Lists:
      • Formulas dynamically display dropdown options from a master sheet based on user input. This mimics dynamic dropdowns and reduces the clutter of long lists.
    • Access to Demo Contents:
      • These methods are demonstrated via published Smartsheet dashboards, with links provided for users to explore and replicate the solutions.
    • Request for a copy of the solution available from a form
