Generate child rows from form and link to a specific Parent

I am creating a Grid for not. It will be used as a form for the data entry aspect. And the primary viewing choice would be calendar.

Now given that, I initially started with a template, and then just discovered, I don't like the way it works.

Below is the template I pulled. The last 2 records are what I entered via the form.

  1. I had to highlight the parent (as there was none with my name). Is there a way to highlight all new parent rows based on a specific column?
  2. How is the child created ? I made a 2nd entry on the form, it was logged as a parent, and it auto-highlighted it the same color as I manually highlighted the previous row. Can I create another column for the child? It is possible that I may want to make a child row entry that is linked to Steve or Erin as the Parent row. Is this even possible?

    Hello Sherry!

    All new form entries show up as Parent Rows. To have them automatically be a child row, there is currently not a native way to do that in Smartsheet, however @SSFeatures has an add-on that will do that.

    All new rows will take the color scheme of the row above it when it is added to the sheet via form.

    You can create conditional formatting that auto-colors rows based off of a selection from a dropdown column. Or Key words etc.

    @Michelle Choate 2 ,

    Thanks, the @SSFeatures addin has some great features, however it is not a valid option. I work on Smartsheet Gov, and expenses like that cannot be covered by our projects. Appreciate the thought though.

    Bummer! It is fantastic! I love the new features that are coming out constantly. I would definitely recommend it as a browser add-in to anyone!

    @Michelle Choate 2 ,

    It looks fantastic. But working at a company that the income is government based means there are strict guidelines on what we can and cannot buy. And that is too bad, as this would be so helpful.
