Smartsheet overrides workflow approval

I have a multi-step workflow approval set up. Form entry submission sends an initial request to the manager. When manager approves, next approval goes to center administrator. Once that's submitted, then it goes to one more and then the director. Problem is that smartsheet is overriding the "Approved" status from "Approved" back to "Submitted" so it's not moving on to the next approval request. I, as the sheet owner, cannot even override it - I change the status from "submitted" to "Approved" and then SmartSheet changes it back to "Submitted.

Any ideas??

I would add specific statuses that reflect all the different stages and then it will work.
