We have at last now got the ability to as a Description ToolTip call it what you want. Pity it is not picked up automatically as the Default (Editable) Help Tip in the Forms.

Is it possible to export to Excel and retain the column descriptions?
Agreed! This is one Smartsheet update that I like wholeheartedly.
Hurrah for column descriptions. Any plans to make them available on reports and dashboards - this is where we need them most. At the moment we have a separate file with a key to describe columns.
I second this - it would be helpful for us to have column descriptions on reports and dashboards as well!
The column description option is grayed out in reports. What are the criteria to make this option accessible?
Unfortunately, it's not possible to have column descriptions in reports at the moment, but it's a great idea!

Wondering if there is any update on adding column descriptions to reports. This is definitely needed. Very often columns are misinterpreted.
Well, and my first question is... why don't they come over from the main sheet!!! seems pretty obvious and straightforward. And the button is there in reports to add column description, but it's grayed out :(

I think the reason why it’s not an option at the moment could be that the same column in different sheets can have different descriptions.
Can you change the Column Description in the Primary Column?
I am able to add to it - but not delete the default description of what a Primary Column is - my users don't need to know that!
