Bump of old question - User input for reporting

Original Question: "https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/use-web-form-return-row-or-report-another-sheet#comment-6824"
essentially, I would like to have people with shared access be able to enter in a search term or term and then run a report off of that. The only way I see to do something like that is to re-run the report builder every time. The sheet is 2000+ rows, so doing a search on the sheet is not ideal.
Is this possible? Am I missing somethign that already exists? If not, is this something that the API could handle?

- You could allow users to just open the sheet and do a simple search with Ctrl+F. If you want to provide a customized UI for the experience, and you have some programming experience, you can use the API to conduct a search in a specific sheet. The SearchResultItem objects that are returned from a search API request will indicate if the search result item is a Row which gives you the ability to only display search results that were found in a Row (as opposed to discussions for example).

Great info - thanks. I have always wanted to learn how to use an API...
