Hi Katrinka-- Smartsheet doesn't currently with Basecamp 3, I think primarily because we offer very similar core functionality. Would you be willing to provide a little more information on what you'd be looking for in an integration with Basecamp? How would you be using Basecamp and Smartsheet together? This information will help me best communicate your feedback to our Product team.

Thanks for replying to this Kennedy - I'm also interested in some sort of integration with Smartsheet.

 

You're right - Basecamp 3 has scheduling and task functionality, but you can't make tasks dependent on each other.  And so from a project planning point of view - that's limiting.

 

If Basecamp 3 has that dependency functionality scheduled as an improvement that would be ideal.  I only need the Smartsheet integration so I can build a project plan and export into Basecamp once complete.

Hi Sam,

If I'm understanding you correctly about the dependency, you want something that will not allow the next task to start before the previous one is finished?

If this is the case, Smartsheet does have predessors that can be set to manage that dependency of one task to another. Maybe that will help.

Hi there,

While Smartsheets is really awesome for project planning, we use Basecamp for team communication/collaboration. In an ideal world, we would LOVE to be able to export our Smartsheets projects into basecamp. Hopefully this is something that Basecamp and Smartsheets can work together towards.

Relatively recently*, Zapier (www.zapier.com) added support for Basecamp 3.

*  I don't use Basecamp and my customer that needed it was on Basecamp 2 with plans to evolve to Basecamp 3. Zapier did not support Basecamp 3 at the time, but it does now.

Hello - this blog started in mid-2016, so I have a question whether there is at present a solution to integrate a Smartsheet sheet with Basecamp. 

Specifically, as a project manager, I need a way to export selected Smartsheet tasks to Basecamp so I do not have to open a redundant Basecamp "to-do" for my Basecamp project members.  

Conversely, I need a way to import Smartsheet (sub)tasks when a team member updates their Basecamp to-do.

Additional information:

1. We use Basecamp as the preferred communication platform for team members; these members do not want to use two tools for to-do management and communication. Thus, project management manually enters Smartsheet (sub)tasks to Basecamp as to-do's. Further, project management regularly updates Smartsheet subtasks based on Basecamp to-do updates. (Argh).  
2. Fields to be exported from Smartsheet to Basecamp consists of task name, unique task ID, assignee, done status - yes or no, date due, and notes.
3. Fields to be imported to Smartsheet from Basecamp consists of task name, unique task ID, assignee, done status - yes or no, date due, and notes.

Smartsheet Team - please advise and thank you ahead of time for such an awesome product!

You may be able to create a process entirely in Smartsheet for this:

1. Create to-dos for your PMs in Smartsheet: either in one sheet or multiple sheets.
2. Use automated update requests in Smartsheet and automated notifications to make sure PMs update info and are aware of the status of their work. Details on that in our help article: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2476191-alerts-stay-on-track-with-automatic-notifications-and-reminders
3. If needed, you can create approvals as well if you need some type of buy-in from stakeholders before moving forward with a project: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2476591-working-with-approval-requests
4. People that are more used to basecamp's interface might find Smartsheet's Card View to be friendlier: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2302238-using-card-view-to-visualize-your-project

Streamlining your process in Smartsheet can reduce your need to have to pay for multiple tools to manage and execute on your team's work.

Otherwise, if you think it's best to stick with two tools, you might investigate zapier (zapier.com), which is compatible with both Smartsheet and Basecamp 3, to see if you can automate activity between the two applications.

Has anyone used Zapier to integrate Smartsheet and Basecamp.  I need some help with this process.  We have similar needs as listed above.  Communication team uses Basecamp for asset management and then project managers use Smartsheet.  We need an overall view of a campaigns with tasks and timelines.

I would like for the same integration as requested above. Multiple departments already use Basecamp for communications. They deal with daily tasks (minutia of my granular tasks and subtasks. If I had every step listed for each task that required a checklist, my smartsheet would be 5,000 rows long. Too extensive! I'm short on time. This type of seamless integration would save lives! lol.
