Enhancement Request: Sights Auto-Refresh

We have created a departmental dashboard and we're displaying it on a 40" LCD.

It looks completely awesome and we are now the envy of all other departments... BUT, the screen doesn't automatically refresh. We created a script that automatically refreshes the screen every 5 minutes and that is working to update the data, but it causes the fullscreen view to revert back to the standard view. (BUZZKILL!)

We're trying to update our script to refresh every 5 minutes and then enter fullscreen mode, but I figured the SmartSheet masterminds would like to know that it would be really awesome if the data in Sights automatically refreshed every 5 minutes while in fullscreen mode.

Thanks for this feedback! I've passed this along to our Sights team and they'll consider it for a future update to the functionality. If you do come up with a script that works, I'd love if you would consider posting it here--I'm sure there's other users who would appreciate a workaround in the meantime

That's a negative on getting the script working.

We're just using a free plugin that automatically refreshes IE.

If the plugin doesn't work, be sure that Meta Refresh is enabled in your security settings:

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security [tab] > Custom Level > Scroll down the pop-up list until you see "Allow Meta refresh" and click enable.

Unfortunately this still kicks us out of Fullscreen mode, but at least the data is updating regularly.

I have used a app called Caffeine in the past to refresh a web page. It,s an app that runns on the host PC. You can configure it to "press" a defined key at a defined interval, for example PF5 every 2 minutes. Not sure if this will get around you full screen issue though. Let me know how it works out.

And another vote for auto-refresh..

When using it as a dashboard tool over 20+ company's (capacity availability status) it is important to have the most current status..

For now I have a workaround to use the iframe published sheet with a metatag, but I want to refresh the Smartsheet dashboard only, not the full webpage..

If you use Google Chrome, you can install an extension called "Super Auto Refresh" and choose how often you want the tab to refresh. It also respects full-screen mode (F11) if you are in it.

It seems to work really well for this purpose. You can choose to have it refresh as often as every second and as far apart as every hour.

I am using Easy Auto Refresh as this is what loaded when I asked for Super. How do I get from Easy to supper as Easy does not respect full screen mode.

It would however be a lot easier if Smartsheet had the functionality built in, also it would be nice if full screen also respected the screen size and not insist on 100%.

Alternatively could the published IFRAME be shown in Fullscreen mode instead of normal view mode.

After all what is a dashboard for if its not to display large and proud for all to see in all its glory.

Pleased to let you know that we are in the last stages of building an auto-refresh setting for Sights. We are targeting to release the settings in late October 2017...next month. Anyone with an Admin/Editor/Viewer role on the Sight, can set their own refresh rate. Default will be every 10 minutes, and can be changed and personalized to your own preference.
