Report view and permissions

Is there a workaround to allow colleagues to view and edit cell data(non licensed)and interact within reports created from a master data sheet, without having permission to view the master source sheet?

The report is created to only include columns and rows that do not contain sensitive or confidential data contained in the master source.

Smartsheet has relegated this functionality to an extremely expensive add-on.

You can work around this by making separate sheets for each group you want to have permissions, and filter that into a report, and give them access to it, but depending on how many people/groups you have it might be a pain to manage it.

I have a Pro plan but I cannot create ANY reports. The system does not allow me to choose a folder, and consequently a sheet to create a row report and suggests an upgrade to Business or Enterprise.
