Reports - improve options
Reports needs improvement. I like the idea but can't i report to a graphic or a bar graph or something like that? The report filtering is hard. For example, i want to filter to the high level tasks like and not all the detail. To do that i have to filter using another column to select. I should be able to report on a few high level tasks and smartsheets shoudl not make me find it.

Hello,
I'd love to send feedback to our Product team on how we can improve the reports functionality. To make sure I understand you, can you elaborate on how a high level task is formatted on your sheet? Are these parent rows? Do you apply special text or cell background formatting to indicate that these are high level tasks?
Thanks in advance!

what i would like to see is a report that has the same hierarchy as the project and/or that i can choose to add or not.
A report that has a list of dozens of flat tasks makes no sense at all.
Take for example the following basic hierarchy:
Electric Car Prototype10%
Design 40%
Make schematic drawing 90%
Create Bill of Materials 80%
Task 0%
Task 0%
Task 0%
Construction
Create Layout drawing 76%
Order parts 0%
Build Panel 1 0%
Build panel 2 0%
If I run a report on what tasks are above 75% complete, I should see the following:
Electric Car Prototype
Design
Make schematic drawing 90%
Create Bill of Materials 80%
Construction
Create Layout drawing 76%
And NOT just:
Make schematic drawing 90%
Create Bill of Materials 80%
Create Layout drawing 76%
And if I run a report to find tasks less than 25%, I should not see:
Electric Car Prototype 10% or i should be able to select and easily filter which level of hierarchy i want to display. Because these are not a tasks. They might be deliverables though. But I should be able to select if it shows or not.
Similarly, if I want to run a report on the status of a high level deliverable like Panels 1 and 2 like this:
Panel 1 50%
Task 1.1
Task 1.2
Task 1.3
Panel 2 30%
Task 2.1
Task 2.2
Task 3.3
I should be able to issue a report on
Panel 1: 50%
Panel 2: 30%
Right now, that is a hard thing to do easily and i can only do it by adding a flag in some other random column.
Does that make sense?
ALso, it would be cool if i could make a graph of per cent complete.

Hello Michael, thanks again for the detailed explanation.
I've passed this on to our Development team based on the other thread we have going that refers to the Sights and Reports enhancements you're wanting.
