Reports needs improvement. I like the idea but can't i report to a graphic or a bar graph or something like that? The report filtering is hard. For example, i want to filter to the high level tasks like and not all the detail. To do that i have to filter using another column to select. I should be able to report on a few high level tasks and smartsheets shoudl not make me find it.Β

  • Hello,

    Β

I'd love to send feedback to our Product team on how we can improve the reports functionality. To make sure I understand you, can you elaborate on how a high level task is formatted on your sheet? Are these parent rows? Do you apply special text or cell background formatting to indicate that these are high level tasks?

    Β

    Thanks in advance!

what i would like to see is a report that has the same hierarchyΒ as the project and/or that i can choose to add or not.

    Β

A report that has a list of dozens of flat tasks makes no sense at all.

    Β

Take for example the following basic hierarchy:

    Electric Car Prototype10%Β

    DesignΒ 40%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Make schematic drawingΒ  90%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Create Bill of MaterialsΒ Β Β Β Β Β  80%

    Β

    Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Β Task 0%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Task 0%

    Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Β Task 0%

    Β

    Construction Β Β

    Create Layout drawingΒ Β Β  76%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Order partsΒ  0%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Build Panel 1 0%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Build panel 2 0%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β

If I run a report on what tasks are above 75% complete, I should see the following:

    Β

    Electric Car PrototypeΒ

    DesignΒ

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Make schematic drawingΒ  90%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Create Bill of MaterialsΒ Β Β Β Β Β  80%

    Β

    Construction

    Create Layout drawingΒ Β Β  76%

    Β

    And NOT just:

    Β

    Make schematic drawingΒ  90%

    Create Bill of MaterialsΒ Β Β Β Β Β  80%

    Create Layout drawingΒ Β Β  76%

    Β

    Β

And if I run a report to find tasks less than 25%,Β I should not see:

    Β

Electric Car Prototype 10% or i should be able to select and easily filter which level ofΒ hierarchy i want to display. Β Because these are not a tasks. They might be deliverables though. But I should be able to select if it shows or not.

    Β

Similarly, if I want to run a report on the status of a high level deliverable like Panels 1 and 2 like this:

    Β

    Panel 1 50%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 1.1

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 1.2

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 1.3

    Panel 2 30%

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 2.1

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 2.2

    Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Task 3.3

    Β

I should be able to issue a report on

    Panel 1: 50%

    Panel 2: 30%

    Β

Right now, that is a hard thing to do easily and i can only do it by adding a flag in some other random column.

    Β

    Β

    Does that make sense?

    Β

ALso, it would be cool if i could make a graph of per cent complete.Β

  • Hello Michael, thanks again for the detailed explanation.

    Β

I've passed this on to our Development team based on the other thread we have going that refers to the Sights and Reports enhancements you're wanting.
