Form with logic - not capturing a default value on submission

Hello!
I am working on a form that contains one piece of logic, and cannot seem to get it to operate the way I want.
I have logic for when the 'Approved distributed item' box is checked, additional fields appear.
- Approved Item Number & Status - Pitch || Go-Live
When i select the box, it works as expected.
But when the form is submitted, the default value of 'Pitch' is not populating in the sheet. I need the status of 'Pitch' captured unless it is manually changed by the form submitter, and it is not.
Any idea why the default value is not captured?

You are half correct.
This is correct:
"In other words it must be on display to capture the default value."
This is not correct:
"So in order to have the default value captured, it cannot be related to conditional / logic on the form."
It CAN be related to the conditional logic on the form, but the logic must be triggered to have that field displayed at the time of submission.

For default values to populate, the field would need to be shown when the form is submitted. So if the logic keeps the field hidden, then the default value will not populate.

Interesting.
So in order to have the default value captured, it cannot be related to conditional / logic on the form.
In other words it must be on display to capture the default value.

So for data to be captured, it must be visible at time of submission. Meaning if the rule is not triggered, making the field invisible, the default value will not be sent to the sheet.

I implemented a hack solution. With my conditionally displayed field (containing a defaulted value) pretty high up on a long form, I put logic in the last required field to display the conditional field. Not a great solution, but it works well enough in this instance.
