Moving Attachments from Pivot Source Sheet to Pivot Target Sheet

Hello,

I'm using a source sheet to collect tasks with basic requests and attachments. I'm then using the Pivot App to organize these tasks by subject, which essentially makes the parent row a main task, with each child row as a subtask that needs to be completed first. This piece of the puzzle is working as intended.

However, we don't have the ability to pull attachments from the source sheet into the new Pivot sheet in an automated way. Any tips for moving attachments from one sheet to another?

Obviously since this is a Pivot, the copy/move row is not an option as it will duplicate task rows.

I tried looking at a third-party program like Zapier, but they don't seem to have the ability to do it. Perhaps this needs to be an enhancement request, but anyone know of any workarounds in the meantime?

  • Hi @Colin Herrera

You are correct, this is an enhancement request as the Pivot app isn't able to move attachments across sheets. Please fill out this form to contact our Product team with your request!

To keep attachments, depending on how your source sheet is set up, what about using a Report and then using the Sort, Group, and Summarize features? A Report would keep the attachments visible.

    Cheers,

    Genevieve

  • @Genevieve P. I like that idea! I'll try it out, thank you.

I tried something else that a colleague suggested. Another workaround (kind of a long workaround) was to 1) use Zapier to upload the file to Box, and then have Zapier populate the row with the unique file ID assigned by Box. 2) Plug that file ID into a formula to create a hyperlink directly to the file... and then 3) DataMesh link that to the new sheet. This is probably unsustainable long term, but it works.

Hope this helps the next person. I'll come back and let you know if the Sort, Group, and Summarize features are just as (if not more) effective.

  • Thanks for posting your current solution!
