Help Text on Form Fields keeps disappearing and other issues

I have a form where I have help text on a number of different fields, however the text is pretty much the same:

"Please check if member is NOT current.

Add any additional members under "Other"

"

This is for drop-down fields.

(I have a line break at the end to allow for some spacing before the choices.)

If I edit the drop-down choices, the help text often goes away. And the text goes away or the final line break disappears in fields I'm not editing. this happens with other, more simple help text as well, for example:

"please separate names by commas"

That's all, no line breaks.

What can be done?
