Smartsheet Group Management arbitrarily changes contacts' names

This is a weird one.

I have added a (male) contact called Chris to my contacts.

His correct name is showing in the contacts list.

When I add him to a group, I find and select him (still with the correct name).

However, when I save after adding him to the group, Smartsheet is changing his name to Christina.

Not great, and I need to iron this out before releasing the solution to the client.

I have tried deleting and re-adding in contacts and in groups, but same result.

Anyone else had this issue, please?


  • Should add that I have other contacts called Chris in my contacts list and in other groups, and this issue isn't happening with them.

    Is it possible that the first time this contact was created it was set up with an incorrect name? If so, then that initial name will be set as the 'account' name for that email address.

    You may need that user to log in to their Smartsheet account and adjust the name set for their account in the Personal Settings of their account (see: Manage Your Personal Profile)

    If this user is a member of your Plan and you're a System Admin on a Business or Enterprise plan, you can check that account in the Admin Center, see: Admin Center: Add, Edit, and Delete Individual Users with User Management
