You’ve asked for real-time updates without the need to save or refresh so that you can collaborate on work effectively and confidently. You’ve asked for a more intuitive and accessible experience that makes it easier to onboard and engage your teams. And you’ve asked for new and better ways to find, sort, filter, organize, connect, and intelligently analyze your work, so you can get more done with ease.
Built on our next-gen platform, table view is the foundation for delivering on that vision. We’re excited to announce that the first bundle of features we’re shipping for table view is now available for everyone!
This initial release includes a fresh, streamlined interface, real-time collaboration, faster load and instant saving, and all new ways to find and edit your work. And if you need to work at an even greater scale, you can opt-in to enable 2x scale, supporting up to 1 million cells today and scaling to 5 million cells in the future.
Built on the next-gen platform for scale and innovation
For over a decade, grid view has been the backbone of how teams collaborated and managed work in Smartsheet. But as our customers’ needs have grown, incremental updates weren't enough. We needed a fundamental shift to an all-new architecture that allows us to innovate faster and deliver a next-generation experience that serves your ever-growing needs.
This transformation led to the creation of table view—a complete reinvention of the grid—alongside other recently released views like timeline and board. Unlike past improvements, this isn’t just a visual refresh. Table view is entirely new and built from the ground up to support faster, more flexible, and higher-performance solutions. Frequently Asked Questions
- Who has access to table? All customers on all plans have access to table view today. However, opting into large-scale sheet support is limited to Enterprise plans.
- Do I have to use table, or can I keep using grid? Grig view and table view are both available for the foreseeable future. You can switch between table view and grid view at any time, and the choice is a per-user, per-sheet option. However, some features are exclusive to each view.
- Can I work in grid view while my collaborators use table view? Yes! It’s a user preference. You can also set table to be the default view when sharing a sheet so your team members can have a modern, collaborative experience in table while you use grid to manage your solution as needed.
- When will table view be at feature parity with grid view? Through frequent releases, table view will offer the vast majority of grid view features this year. In addition, new feature innovations like the ones mentioned above, will only be available with table view. Stay in the know by subscribing to receive product release updates.
- What are large-scale sheets and how do I enable them? Grid view supports 500,000 cells and/or 20,000 rows. Table view introduces “large-scale” sheets which increase sheet capacity by 2x with up to 1 million cells and/or 50,000 rows, with additional scalability in the future. This capability is exclusive to Enterprise plans. In order to access larger sheet capacity, you must opt-in for each sheet to ensure necessary solution capabilities are supported. Learn more.
- Is table compatible with my existing solutions? Will background automations and workflows keep working? Yes, table view is fully compatible with existing Smartsheet solutions. Just like board view or timeline view, it’s another view of the same data. At this time, automations, update requests, DataShuttle workflows, and other background processes are supported on table view up to 20,000 rows or 500,000 cells. Learn more.
- Is table view replacing grid? Grid view will remain available for the foreseeable future. Once table view fully supports key grid features, it will transition to become the new default experience. Once the majority of our customers no longer utilize grid view, we plan to retire it.

LOVE IT! Is dependency editing on the enhancement roadmap for table view?
-
Love that quick search feature at the top!
-
What! Sort and Filter at the same time! Well I'll be!
-
@Webb_E - Yes, dependency management is on the roadmap.
-
If Table view increases "sheet capacity by 2x with up to 1 million cells and/or 50,000 rows, with additional scalability in the future", what happens when a user changes to Grid view where the table view exceeds a grid view max limit? (i.e. the table view has over 20,000 rows)

How can I get the images to show in a column?

Is there a video tutorial of the features?

Hi @Trang Turtletraxx - If you opt-in a sheet for larger sheet capacity, and it exceeds 20,000 rows or 500,000 cells in table view, it cannot be switched back to grid view. Please read our help article, Large-scale sheets in table view, for more details.
Hi @MPath - Currently, you need to switch to grid view to add images to a cell. While this functionality isn't currently supported in table view, it is on our roadmap.
Hi @Heather White - Yes, please go to our Introduction to table view help article to see a video highlighting new table features and setup. I also recommend this other help article for more in-depth details on setup.

Ah ok. Well thx.
Two thing though;
- This image in the feature makes it look like it's available in Table view ;)
- I did not know it was possible in Grid view! Thank you :)
Edit: Unfortunatly, adding an image is not what I thought it was. I thought it was possible to add the image there which was attached on the row in the sheet, rather than a manual thing. I would like to have a form where the submitted image(s ) are displayed thumbnail size on the row of the sheet the form is attached to.

Are column formulas part of this, because I LOVE THEM!
-
Hi - if we switch to Table view, we lose all of our automations and other unsupported features. Do you know if this will be a supported feature at a later date? Otherwise, we have to create additional sheets just to run those.

HOW can we force a save as we go? I cannot tell you how many times I've been working / updating in Table View, and have lost data toggling into another view (Calendar or sheet) because the Save button is not on this view!
-
Its supposed to save as you go. Does it NOT?

Agree, tighter integration between attachments and what gets displayed in the table view is a great idea and something we are definitely considering! Thanks!
