Take Photos in Form with Tablets

We use Surface Pro's in my department for tracing areas to ensure compliance. When we complete our form (and we do several during our walkthrough), Smartsheet will not allow us to take a photo directly through the File Upload option so the photo will be submitted to the sheet like it does when using our phones or iPad. Instead, they have to be taken with the camera, saved on the internal hard drive, and then uploaded to the sheet manually. Per my IT, they believe that because Smartsheet sees the Surface Pro as a laptop (non-mobile device) rather than a tablet, it won't let us take a photo.

Please consider adding this capability to other devices that work as both a laptop and a tablet. It would be extremely helpful to my organization and likely others as well.

I have attached photos of both options so you can see the difference.

Thanks!

Regina

  • We absolutely needed this option when we had a sign-in for an event we hosted. We had videographers and photographers on site and they requested a photo and name/contact info for each person for post-event editing and tagging. Instead of having a couple of laptops set up so people could do the sign in (Smartsheet form), we had to ask them to use their own cell phones to scan QR codes to the form so they could take selfies. It resulted in a huge bottleneck at the login and also a huge drop-off in sign in participation for people who scanned the QR code and then just wandered off without submitting the form.
