Reference worksheet name in alert automation
Please see the attached for reference. I have an alert automation to let my reception to expect bid submission on a triggered date. When I look at the email, attached, there is absolutely no indication as to what worksheet the automation came from. How do I fix this so that my admin will know the name of the project (worksheet title)?

Hi @MMerin
There isn't a way to pull in the sheet name but there is a work around.
Add the sheet name to the sheet summary, (sheet summary, add new field, set up "Sheet Name" and enter the name)
Then you can add the sheet name to each row in your sheet using this formula
=[Sheet Name]#
You can then hide the Sheet Name column but can pull it into the automation as you have done with the due date.
{{Sheet Name}}
Just be aware that you need to update the sheet summary if you rename the sheet.

Hi @MMerin
I hope you're well and safe!
You can add a Sheet Summary field for Project/Sheet Name and a so-called helper column that references that field in a column formula so it populates on each row.
Make sense?
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Thank you KPH, but this is way to clunky for just one line. For me, having to remember to change a name negates the purpose of automation. I am hopeful there is a better way.

You could include a link to the sheet in your message.
It won't be as clear for the recipient but is an option.
I believe there is a product enhancement request to add sheet name as a variable into automations.
-
An enhancement would be nice. Thank you again for the ideas. Do you know if there is a way to reference the sheet name in a cell?
-
I had a quick look and can't see an enhancement request to upvote but you can add one:
Unfortunately, you can't directly reference the sheet name in the cell. The workaround at the moment is to add the sheet name as a field in the sheet summary and then reference the sheet summary field.
-
So here is my work around for now and I believe this is what you are telling me.
I do have a column set up named Cost/Misc for things that are row specific. I do have a cell at the top of the worksheet that has the full project name, not truncated with ref#'s for sorting that are included in the sheet title. I entered in the column/row for which I have automation "=[Task Name]1", being the referenced column name and row number the name is located in. In my automation I entered {{Cost/Misc}} to reference the project name.
This does leave the sheet summary out of but I think it should work for now.
Thank you both for your help!!!

Excellent!
You're more than welcome!

Hi @MMerin
That sounds like a workable solution to me.

Would you like to see this feature added to Smartsheet as much as I would?
