Workspace Panel opening automatically should be optional

Please add a setting where you can enable/disable the Workspace Panel automatically opening on the left panel when you open a new asset. Having it open by default and squeezing the viewable space on the sheet has been reported as a major efficiency detractor by no less than a dozen employees already.

Completely agree with this feedback. I would even take a hover option where it only appeared if I clicked on the icon and then when the mouse focus leaves the panel it would close. This often takes up screen space and I am constantly closing it.

The panel itself is very helpful, I just wish it didn't constantly take up screen space or spend half the day closing it.

I very strongly agree! Another way this would be a benefit rather than a distraction/nuisance would be to have it closed by default and provide a quick and easy way to open as needed. It has a large impact, considering that if one opens 50+ smartsheet pages in a workday, this would be useful on a rare occasion (maybe a couple of times per day).

Oh yes please!! I'm always moving fast as it is and that need to close the panel with every single sheet I open is beyond annoying

AGREED! I love the panel but only need it open when I need to click on something else in the space. Even if it has to open originally, it should autoclose after a few seconds.

Thanks for posting this David. That panel is driving me crazy. I have never used the Workspace panel so I definitely don't need to see it every time I open a sheet. Never, would be a much better option.

Agree. It's kind of been one of those things that's there when I don't want it, but not there when I hoped it would be. Easy enough to pop it open when needed, but generally the focus of the screen is the sheet/report/dashboard, not the files table of contents. Loving the feature, but liking this recommendation.

This is causing me a huge headache as well. It's helpful for navigating between assets in a workspace, but that helpfulness is cancelled out by having to close the panel over and over again.

Please fix this. It becomes very distracting moving between dashboards, especially during a presentation.

Agreed, If a feature needs to be turned off on every single workspace page being navigated too, it would be prudent to create a setting to allow for it to be off until toggled on.

I wholeheartedly agree — please STOP making the panel open! I am in Smartsheet all day every day and it's super annoying to have to repeatedly close that panel. I can easily open it myself IF I want to see it! Not only is the auto-opening of this panel NOT helpful, it actually SLOWS down work. This is the complete opposite of the efficiency that Smartsheet normally provides.

1,000% in agreement with David and everyone that responded in this thread. This panel is helpful when navigation is intentional, but to have it open by default takes up valuable screen real estate and requires an additional click when opening a new asset. To compound the issue, many folks do not even realize this is a panel that can be closed. I have had to tell them to close this panel on screenshare, meaning they will always be working from reduced sheet visibility in service of this panel.

Please keep this panel closed by default. Thanks for posting David!

A THOUSAND TIMES THIS! I open it to open something else and then it's annoying to have it there taking up screen real estate when it's no longer needed. I had provided this feedback to the EAP team but since it was just after it was generally released, I got a "thanks we'll consider that" feedback. 🙄 Glad to know I'm not alone in being frustrated with the feature.
