Can automation reference another grid as a trigger?

Is it possible to create an automation that triggers off a different grid (grid 2) where that information is not copied to grid number one?

Example, when grid 2 column NAME says Mike send information via automation from grid one to a Mike via email?

if I am reading this correctly, automations only work with the sheet they are attached to not forms? I just wanted to confirm we are talking about the same thing.
