Barcode Scanner - Forms

Is it possible to have my field team scan a barcode sticker affixed to a computer asset and have the associated asset record in Smartsheets brought up in a Card View or Form format so they can validate and/or enter information in the computer's location (free text or dropdown) and attached peripherals (checkbox) fields?

A Barcode can direct the device to any web address so the easiest would be:

Create a Form for the Sheet in Smartsheet ..

Put the URL in a barcode Generator and then when you scan the barcode it will open the form in Smartsheet. Very Simple..

The complexity comes in when you have to manage say 300 assets then you need to create 300 forms (URL's) and 300 barcodes (Pictures). It can become a maintenance nightmare. Unfortunately, you cannot pass data in a web call, like www.url.com?=machine1. You have to call it directly and 'hardcode' machine1 in the form.

Management of the barcodes can even become an issue as the asset information cannot be read from the barcode unless you generate it with human-readable text.

The barcode could even be placed on a dashboard or say the wallpaper of the computer so you can simply scan the barcode from the computer screen.

You may want to consider creating a form for say a group of assets so that the user can pick from say 6 machines that are geographically close to the computer to reduce the quantity of forms and barcodes

Yes, but there would still be some manual steps, and it would open the row if I remember correctly.
