WorkApps refer to Groups as People
So these Roles below only got me (owner) and one Group, however at the front-end, smartsheet shows 2 people which is inaccurate. It should ideally show 1 people / 1 group (or something along those lines).

I have been able to reproduce what you report and there currently isn't a way for Workapps differentiate between assigned people and groups when counting the elements that particular role includes.
