Use "Created By" auto generated field as a "contact list" for use with approval workflow

I have a form that is use to submit travel requests. I would like to set-up an auto-field that captures who the form was "created by", rather than having them enter their name into the "contact list". I was hoping to use this to then send an auto-generated workflow to this contact. However, I believe workflows only work with true "contact lists". Does anyone know how to use "created by" as a "contact list" to then send workflows to?

When setting up the workflow, just change the recipient to "Contacts in a cell". You can then use the dropdown to select the Created by column.

We send automated workflows to the system column Created By all the time. Just beware that the user needs to be logged in with their e-mail address when submitting the form for the rule to work. Otherwise the address in Created By field will be web-form@smartsheet.com
