More about me

If you haven’t gotten a chance to meet me in the Community yet, I’m Maxwell (you can call me Max) ✌️ the Sr. Web Producer for our Community Platform as well as for our website and Help and Learning center. I’m usually working behind the scenes ensuring the Community is a wonderful and functional place for our members to form connections without any interruptions.

A few things about me:

I’ve worked at Smartsheet for nearly 3 years (anniversary approaching in July 2023). This has been my all time favorite job/role and I attribute this to all of YOU and my wonderful co-workers.
I grew up in Seattle, but I currently reside in Upstate NY with my fiancé, Emily, and dog, Finn.
Outside of work I love to row, run, travel, and spend as much time as possible with friends and family.
My favorite band is Death Cab for Cutie, naturally being from the Pacific Northwest. Love moody music just as much as the weather in Seattle.

👉 My favorite tip

A good way to level up and earn more badges within the Community is by doing the following: 1) Login to the Community 2) React to posts and comments. These are two extremely effective ways you can gain points and earn badges when reaching milestones (i.e. 5 up votes, 10 insightful, etc.) along your Community journey!

The report item will make life easier for sure!

I'm looking at the features that are selected for roadmap and I'm finding they are very low in the totem of larger requests. I'm noticing a lot of front facing enhancements are report bound, but there are a considerable amount of sheet specific gaps (logic, client-side actions, automation updates, etc) in the product set that still need attention. If there's a way to provide reasoning for enhancements over others, please include that in your roadmap strategy.

Lastly, another ask is a proper roadmap view that is accessible and fully browseable. For the life of me, I can't find that anywhere in the community. If it doesn't exist, please prioritize it for everyone to increase transparency for your user base.

@SomeRando Smartsheet reviews the Product Ideas (link at top of page as well as below in this comment) every 30 days (at least I believe that is the frequency). I can't remember how many but they do select the top # voted ideas. Each idea also indicates where it is on the roadmap.

@Paul Newcome, yeah, I've seen that view. Appreciate the reply, but I still want a visual similar to Projects, Jira, Trello, Monday, etc. Another question is around community cleanup of ideas, posts, or anything else that would lead to a product idea. Do you or others know if that action is being done to dedupe information? I know at least for a few items I've been following that it's not centralized. Maybe with that approach we'll have a better idea of what's in the roster.

Yes, when the Smartsheet team notices duplicates or similar requests, they usually combine them into one.

@SomeRando The admins do try to keep the Product Ideas as combined as possible, but it is certainly a daunting task. A lot of people would rather just submit their own idea instead of searching which adds more work to the Admins' already daunting task of keeping us all in line. Haha.

As for regular posts… There are A TON of posts every single day. But we also have to try to do our part as community members to search before creating a new post. Again… Keeping everything consolidated is a manual process. The more due diligence we follow by searching for and commenting on similar threads instead of just creating new ones (when possible) will make their job actually feasible which in turn makes it easier for us to find things. Basically we have to help them help us.

Of course I am not saying that you personally don't do any of that. I just mean in general it does happen quite a bit.

@Maxwell Griffith Would it be possible to have an intermediary screen that pops up before someone posts a question? Maybe one that brings up suggestions based on key words in their posts and a big flashing pop-up that says "Did you REALLY search for this yet?" 🤣

I cannot wait for the option to customize data labels on Charts. I've been waiting for this since 2019!!

Now, I just wait for the ability to add a trending line to a graph. Dreams do come true lol
