Re: Sharing Templates
Nice! 👍️
I don’t know of a formal approval process, but @Genevieve P can probably point you in the right direction.
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Re: Sharing Templates
That's a great question! It's exciting to hear that you've built a template that works so well for you. If you'd like to share it with the Community, you could post a published link, here. I'll make sure the proper team has visibility on this post by tagging it with "Template", too.
You can also submit Enhancement Requests if you want to provide feedback to our Product Team about future templates they could add in to the Solution center.
Thanks,
Genevieve

Re: Trying to automate select columns from master sheet to sub sheets.
Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment to select which columns that should be included, but it's an excellent idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment
As a possible workaround, you could use cross-sheet formulas, VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to only collect the information from the columns as needed.
Make sense?
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

Re: Map values to date buckets
You can do this with an INDEX(COLLECT, looking for two criteria (that the End Date is greater-than-or-equal-to this current date, or that the Start Date is less-than-or-equal-to the this current date).
This is the structure for an IndexCollect if it's a cross-sheet formula:
=INDEX(COLLECT({range to pull from}, {first criteria range}, first criteria, {second criteria range}, second criteria), 1)
In your instance, it sounds like this table is at the top of the sheet, is that correct? If so, you can have your ranges be locked in to look at certain rows. For example, if you just have 3 rows with this table, you can lock in the row numbers with an absolute reference or a $ sign: Sprint$1:Sprint$3
Try something like this:
=INDEX(COLLECT(Sprint$1:Sprint$3, [Start Date]$1:[Start Date]$3, <= [Date Input]@row, [End Date]$1:[End Date]$3, >= [Date Input]@row), 1)
The "Date Input" column is what I named whatever column your users will be putting the date into. Let me know if this works for you! If not, it would be helpful to see some screen captures and know a bit more about your set up.
Cheers,
Genevieve
Re: Lot's of questions on use of a workspace!
Hi @Lara Homewood,
Thank you for your questions! I highly recommend looking into our Pro Desk service for more in-depth coaching on Smartsheet features that can help with what you're looking to accomplish, but I'm happy to offer assistance here as well.
Character Limit: As you found, there's currently a limit of 4,000 characters that can be entered in a cell. I highly recommend Submitting a Product Enhancement Request to see about having this number increased in a future release of the application.
Update Requests: The following fields will appear as read-only in an Update Request form:
- Fields that contain formulas
- Start Dates and Finish Dates with a dependency (the Duration field can be edited)
- Predecessors (this field won't appear in an update request)
- Locked columns
You may want to also submit a request for the ability to update formula cells via Update Requests.
Transferring Workspace Ownership: Before you can successfully take or transfer ownership of a workspace, you must first make sure that the intended new workspace owner is shared to the workspace and owns all of the items in it. The new owner must be shared to the workspace with Admin-level permissions. For more information on transferring ownership of individual items as well as transferring ownership of an entire workspace, visit the following Help articles from the Learning Center:
Feel free to contact the Support Team if you would like one of the Support reps to help walk you through these processes.
Resizing columns in a Report Widget: You may need to look into resizing columns in the report itself or even in the source sheet(s) to see if this helps to show more information in the widget window. Resizing the widget window itself may help too but this is another great question for the Support Team, as they will be able to review what you're working with over a screen share and provide some insight on the options available for getting to your desired layout.
Copying Text from a Dashboard: If you're working with Title or Rich Text widgets on a dashboard that you own or are shared to as an Admin, you could copy the text by:
- Clicking the "Edit" button in the top left corner
- Double-clicking on the widget window
- Selecting the text you wish to copy in the "Preview" section of the Edit window
- Copying the text, either by right-clicking and selecting Copy or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C
I'm not seeing a way to copy text directly from other widget types so you may want to submit a request for this functionality as well.
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Ben
Re: is it possible to block a row from being deleted while allowing edit to specific cells in that row?
Hi @Michael Bull,
difficult as you want to combine "watch only" with "editing" on a per column level.
There is a very efficient but expensive solution to that, the premium add-on Dynamic View:
Another option would be to use update requests for the people who possibly delete rows. What do you think, will that help you out?
Greetings
Stefan
Re: Power Bi - How do i get the data held (comments) in Conversations into Power Bi?
Hey Sean,
Given that you are not able to surface comments elsewhere in Smartsheet (Dashboard, reports or sheets), I can only imagine that this would require custom development via the Smartsheet API.
I hope this helps.

Re: How to perform trend analysis on symbols
Hi @Ed Sheaf
You will need to build the IF logic formula because Smartsheet doesn't know what it should consider is more or less for Symbols.
Make sense?
I hope that helps!
