Copying and Pasting Contacts From Outlook

Smartsheet should implement the ability to copy and paste contacts directly from the "To" or "Required" fields within Outlook. If the system already has the contact listed it can match them to that existing entry. However, if the contact is new it should automatically use the information copied to create an entry.

When copying information from outlook it would format this individual's (John Doe, jdoe@mail.com) like this:

John Doe <jdoe@mail.com>, next person <nperson@mail.com>, etc....

This would greatly increase efficiency when working on multiple large projects with long lists of new individuals who need to be added quickly.

Yes! This would save a lot of manual entries and reduce errors. This is not an unusual format and I'm sure if there are other common formats (Google? Apple?) then they should also be added.

  • 100%!! What's worse is you used to be able to do this, at least for individual contacts, now it gives you an error message. Smartsheet introduced a new sharing dialog that hasn't added any new functionality that I can see, but stripped out this extremely basic feature 😡🤬

Standard old html email links, like mailto:support@smartsheet.com used to work also, and now don't. You can't even paste them, nothing works, the first few times you think you must have nothing on your clipboard, and go back and copy it again, or perhaps your V key isn't working, but no, it's just a new Smartsheet "feature" that sucks!

What's even worse is that AGAIN is that when you paste in an Outlook formatted email address that it can't recognise it doesn't even let you remove the offending formatting right there in the email address field. It tries to be smart about it (but instead is just dumb) and splits it up into words based on spaces so John Doe <jdoe@mail.com> becomes [John] [Doe] with a warning message: !Please enter a valid email address

You need to paste the copied email address into some other software that is actually competent at what it does and remove all the formatting except the actual email address, then just paste that!!!

This isn't even an idea or a feature request, it's a "restore the basic functionality you took out request"!

The level of incompetence displayed by destroying what should be a basic task you don't have to think twice about doesn't bode well for the future of this company.
