AI has helped me in many ways with learning formulas and being able to create them based on the scenarios I have put in my head. I use a lot of the formula creations but have been dabbling more in creating insights when I need certain information quick from a sheet without having to create a metric sheet when it is a 1-time thing. I would recommend with AI being able to find insights based on a certain time frame.

    • How is AI helping you work smarter, not harder — or how could it help you in the future?

AI is a funny thing. It can do a lot but I always like to side with caution and know when and how to use it correctly.

    1. I like using it to brainstorm Ideas. sometimes I have ideas and with some AI help, it can expand my thoughts and help me spark new ideas etc.
    2. Helping me correct my grammar and writing. Sometimes this takes some trial and error but sometimes you need help saying something but in a different way!
    3. Analyzing data. This one is super helpful but also you need to make sure your data is clean. Just like everything, garbage in <> garbage out! I think it will be a long time before AI can highlight human error in data.

Also, No I didn't use AI to help write this post… that's why it's not perfect! Keep your personality in your communication, that makes you unique!!

I am curious about how to fully utilize AI in my everyday workflow. I use it here and there to review a complex announcement or wording in a document. However, I struggle with using it for SS Formulas as I still can't seem to get it to understand exactly what I am asking. I end up writing them myself.

I am sure AI has a lot of potential, I just need to be willing to embrace new opportunities with AI.

Side note - I do photography as a hobby - I have dabbled with AI on editing images - it is crazy how it can fix items that I struggle with, but it is also comical when it completely changes the photo.

There is a lot I need to learn about AI, and honestly, I have yet to take the time to learn. While I am in the Technology Field, I sometimes wonder if we are taking things too far and wonder if people in some generations to come will not know how to do the basics.

That said, I did see a post the other day the sums it up.

I've only dabbled in using AI - I've used CoPilot to help write code. I'm excited to use Smartsheet AI to help write formulas too!

I have played around with the AI in my workplace, as well as my personal life. ChatGPT can be scarily accurate with building documents and brainstorming with. I have been stuck in trying to come up with solutions, and throwing ideas and questions at ChatGPT has helped get things moving faster. I am excited to see where AI evolves.

I don't use AI every day. I only use it when I can't solve an issue or I need inspiration on how to solve an issue. AI learns from us, and we can learn from AI.

AI definitely helps when I need a quick analysis of a system and have other development work.

When I think about AI and Smartsheet, I think of one automation I have set up for project management and tracking this task of providing me reminders for pre-meeting with clients, such as posting agendas. AI helps me come up with quick solutions on the fly when needed.

One of the ways I used AI recently was to help me figure something out when I had no brain space to figure it out on my own. Basically, I have to post agendas, for eight (8) different clients each week within Basecamp. That can be a lot for a PM who has a ton of other things to do but here is what AI helped me figure out how to set myself up for success in setting up those reminders and offered a solution within seconds:

I created an Agenda Tracker Sheet [Name of Client] that has columns such as Meeting Dates, Agenda Due Date, Agenda Status (Not Started, Pending, Canceled, Completed) and Reminder Sent.
In my Agenda Due Date column I have a formula set to calculate two (2) days before the Meeting Date. I set up a workflow to alert me (via Smartsheet notification) on when a date is reached to trigger two days before the Agenda Due Date.
I also have a rule to update the Reminder Sent column to "Yes" after sending the reminder to me so I know the workflow was triggered. This especially helps when I have someone who might be stepping in for me to cover a client meeting I cannot meet with (due to vacation, out of office, at a conference or an appointment, etc.) I can select which Meeting Dates I will be out for assign the task and send a reminder to update the agenda to internal teammates who do not have a Smartsheet account. It works so so well!

I currently do not need to save agendas within Smartsheet but IF I DID I could track whether an agenda was posted by setting up a check-in rule as well to remind myself to add the agenda as an attachment. Currently, I have a trigger that moves the row or Meeting Date out of my sheet and archives it to a different one to ensure I can only see up-to-date meeting dates and times I have coming up.

  • I’ve had a great experience using ChatGPT to help craft emails, and it’s been incredibly useful. I’m looking forward to using the AI provided by Smartsheet to incorporating it more, especially for Smartsheet-related tasks, as I continue to grow in my role."

AI has been incredible to help me learn new things. Every time I have an idea, but have no clue how to implement it, I can go straight to an AI model and it teaches me much faster than I ever could on my own. It's ability to breakdown and write code has been incredible for efficiency.

  • I have used AI at work to help me generate formulas, ideas and get information quickly, This helps me get solutions faster and come up with new ideas

I'm still in the process of learning how much can AI help me in Smartsheet. I would actually be interested in having a training class on possibilities that are out there with real time examples. It is hard to know exactly how and apply it to different formulas, from my perspective. Would that be something that the Smartsheet team be able to provide for the users?

I personally do not rely TOO heavily on using AI as I do not want to get lazy or put my skills or brain on the backburner. But with that being said, I do love using AI to help with charts and graphs especially for some last minute needs from my boss that I simply do not have the time for at that particular moment. I have also tried a few formulas using AI but right now that particular area could use some improvements. I have had to do far too many edits or corrections, especially for cross-sheet formulas. I am sure there is some potential to be had with AI but I am also well aware of the risks involved with using it. So for now, I don't use AI often in my work but for some of my personal uses I do like exploring the possibilities of what AI may be able to help with. I am cautiously optimistic in seeing where this AI road may lead, as long as we remember to keep the power where it belongs, within our own built intelligence and capabilities!!

I use the AI formula generator when I'm trying out complex conditional logic and just know I'm going to spend ages picking out the typos. It works really well for that.

I had to laugh though, when I recently used AI hoping for help with a multi-component cross-sheet query. Why'd I laugh? Throughout ENGAGE I was indoctrinated in the use of INDEX/MATCH/COLLECT - not VLOOKUP. AI obviously hadn't been to ENGAGE. I wrote my own query that day. 😜
