Request for Rollback - create sheets in Sheets folder

This new update from Smartsheet is hindering work performance for us and I'm wondering if other users are feeling the same way. This new update has created the inability to create folders, move sheets into folders and made it mandatory for new workspaces to be created when a sheet/report/dashboard is being created. For us, this is not optimal.

In fact, it has disimproved existing organization, hindered streamline in creation, forced collaboration where it is not needed, and has increased confusion in our preexisting workflow.

Please rollback this new way of operating Smartsheet.

lpierre I have asked our large community to vote on this Roll-back Request. But if you want to read the comments, you can go here (see below) 😀

  • What an utterly garbage "update". It's broken so many existing processes, from organization to training.

  • This update is terrible and comes at a detriment to Smartsheet's customer, not a service. I'm not sure how much negative feedback they need to receive before they get the message, but I'm hoping this get's rolled back immediately and is soon just a bad memory.

I have been a huge proponent of Smartsheet in our organization (which is occasionally up for review) and this renders what was once a highly effective tool for our project managers, useless. If this isn't rolled back, we'll be forced to look for a solution elsewhere.

  • Please roll back this non improvement or at least make it optional

  • I would like to also share my concerns. Like many others, getting Smartsheet adopted into our workflows took a lot of work. Having this change without any notice of it coming or how it was intended to work has forced my team to be bombarded with questions as to how to function. We are not able to handle these questions and it is causing our management lose confidence in the platform. Unfortunately for us, this change has came at a time that we are restructuring data and streamlining our smartsheet information. As I am in talks with others also responsible for classifying data, I do not have a solution to stand behind because I do not understand how this "update" is supposed to function.

I am assuming that this new structure, and it's migration, are actually well thought out and intended to have a roll-out. If there is a resource out there explaining how we are intended to use the new format to mirror our existing structures, please share it. If there is not a way to allow users to categorize the individual sheets shared with them, and have to rely on a mountain of workspaces based on others naming conventions, please roll it back.

  • Nice to see the entire Smartsheet customer community hates the update and the developers have absolutely zero response or engagement whatsoever…

I just discovered I could not create a new folder in the "Sheets" folder, and the reason for it. :(

    image.png

I discovered this post where @Paul Newcome quotes the following from Smartsheet:

"We deprecated the "Sheets" folder and are replacing it with Workspaces for a more streamlined experience".

Am I the only one that uses sheets extensively to keep my Workspaces folder clean?

My request is to please allow us to continue using the "Sheets" folder.

I don't even mind if it has limited functionality—sharing abilities, for example. I just prefer the speed it offers in organizing unused or in-production sheets before I move them to workspaces, as well as the separate area for them.

Plus currently Workspaces is VERY LIMITED in allowing only 100 objects to be copied or "Save as New".

If I cannot stop the ball from rolling down the hill, please allow drag and dropping workspaces into each other by auto-converting the workspace into a folder when you drag-and-drop it into a different workspace, which would also require removing the 100 object limit.

Or, could someone at Smartsheet explain what features will be ADDED to make up for the loss of the functionality of the "Sheets" folder? If workspaces are also being enhanced at the same time that would be great. If not, why remove something many of us depend on, except to make it easier to support?

Edit: found the FAQ on this here: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2483396-sheets-folder-deprecation-faq

What's most alarming is the question, "What happens to the file structure I created in the Sheets folder?"

A: Specific folder structures you created in the Sheets folder aren't preserved in the conversion. If you want to maintain specific folder structures, we recommend creating a new workspace with your desired structure and moving your items to it. Otherwise, you don't need to do anything else.

This is going to be a very time consuming process for me…
