Hi Guys,
What is the possibility to increase the row (20 000) and column capacity? I'm working for a company that headcount surpasses the 20 000 mark which makes it extremely difficult to utilize smartsheets, which we really want to do. This would truly make a huge difference in building a database etc.
Hello,
Is there a way to increase row limit per sheet? At the moment our data base is has 50 columns (which will not expand much more) but we have at the moment around 11k of rows used and we would like to continue using the same sheet. Is there a way we can expand this limit per sheet?
Thank you in advance for assistance.
I collect a huge number of data in each of my sheets (Time tracker, task by task) and every 15 days I need to move them to a back up file. Would that be possible for Smartsheet to increase the limit of rows (Similar with excel maybe?) per sheet in order to avoid this backup creation every 15 days? I would like to have the consolidated data in one place, and even though we can do that in a report, all the time when a new file is created I need to add that to the report (which might lead to mistakes). Also, not everybody is able to filter in the report (as it changes everything right?).
I hope you're well and safe!
Have you explored using the Premium App, Data Shuttle / Data Table?
Is that an option?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic weekend!

extend the capacity of a single sheet to more than 20k rows. Even extending it to 30k would help but this capacity limit is very restricting in large organizations with large, long term projects.
I have a python script that I use for automation that has 511 columns that are parsed to populate a template.
The current maximum of columns is 400 on Smartsheet.
I'm positive I am not the only user that has run into this limit. Let's pump up the numbers on these column limits so we can all better leverage Smartsheet.
Hello,
It would be great to increase sheet and reports capacity.
20.000 rows or 500.000 cells it's not enough. I think it should be like 100.000 rows per sheet. I would like to use connector/bridge or data shuttle for larger data sets and not to think how to split sheets into many different archive files. It would be a great game changer for every advanced Smartsheet user.
Hello Team,
For license users, It would be ideal to have the row limit to the match the limit size in MS Excel i.e. 1,000,000 rows.
Any additional rows after 1 Million, ideally should be then covered with Premium Apps.
This will allow users to better adopt smartsheet and it features.
Also same should apply API governance, to allow better integration and automation.
Hi folks,
I work on the Product team here at Smartsheet on this issue, and I'd like to give some feedback about our direction for new limits on sheets.
You may have seen on the Engage keynote that we're making scale a focus of our work right now and announced some major work in this area; we know that you're feeling pain around having to split your work up into multiple sheets when you'd much prefer to work in the same place on all your data. We hear you!
What we're aiming for as of now is the following sizes on a sheet:
So that could be expressed as up to 1 million rows with 5 columns, or up to 5,000 rows with 1,000 columns, or anything in between up to the 5m cell limit.
Additionally, we're aiming for no further surprises in terms of what you can put in those cells; you could have 5m cells links, or 5m formulas, with no further restrictions.
These numbers and goals aren't final, or binding - we may have to change some up or down slightly as we work through it, and I can't give you a hard timeline on this, as there's a lot of work we need to do behind the scenes to get there. However, I can tell you that this is something we're actively spending a lot of effort on right now.
What are all your thoughts?
Thanks Bob. I was not able to make it to ENGAGE this year (first one missed), so this sounds great and I look forward to seeing more information. Question, would this include an increase in cell linking (currently at 100K)? But of course, if the size of the sheet increases and the response time is not negatively impacted, then perhaps I would not need to break up my data into multiple sheets and link it back together. 🤓
My thoughts on this enhancement? My whole Billing and Credit Department would host a huge celebration in your honor! :) Maybe even with a parade on Broadway in Nashville.....we know a few people. heehee
In all seriousness, this would be the biggest pain reliever for many of my projects! Please release sooner than later.

Yes! Cell links are going to increase to match the cells on the sheet - 5m cells, 5m cell links.
I should also point out today that the limit is actually 500k, not 100k - we boosted it again a few months ago!
I am still seeing this error message. It would be nice if we, as the user, could see/monitor the number of cross-sheet references, prior to reaching the limit and getting the error.
Those limits would be amazing and would work. Do we have a timeline of implementation in 2024?
Hi, Bob -
The proposed increases sound fantastic. I presume Smartsheet is increasing processing power to accommodate on the back-end? We have experienced issues with larger sheets when workflow automation, associated reports from the sheet and premium app (DataShuttle as source, DataMesh, DynamicView and WorkApp) are all involved. I can echo the pain it sounds like others on this thread express with our current state (large data source divided into multiple DataShuttles/target sheets to be then brought back together in a report). I am really looking forward to EAP access so we can take this for a spin...
I would like to see a bigger copy/paste option. I have data I pull from our CTMS and I need to build on what is already loaded (patient enrollment, etc.) but it is frustrating to only add 500 rows at a time. I would like the ability to copy the entire report in one pass, or better yet, have an interface with the other platform to pull the data in when it occurs!
This row, column expansion is going to make a huge difference for our team! I look forward to it launching!
