Hi folks,
I work on the Product team here at Smartsheet on this issue, and I'd like to give some feedback about our direction for new limits on sheets.
You may have seen on the Engage keynote that we're making scale a focus of our work right now and announced some major work in this area; we know that you're feeling pain around having to split your work up into multiple sheets when you'd much prefer to work in the same place on all your data. We hear you!
What we're aiming for as of now is the following sizes on a sheet:
- 5 million cells on a sheet (up from 500k)
- Up to 1 million rows on a sheet (up from 20k)
- Up to 1,000 columns on a sheet (up from 400)
So that could be expressed as up to 1 million rows with 5 columns, or up to 5,000 rows with 1,000 columns, or anything in between up to the 5m cell limit.
Additionally, we're aiming for no further surprises in terms of what you can put in those cells; you could have 5m cells links, or 5m formulas, with no further restrictions.
These numbers and goals aren't final, or binding - we may have to change some up or down slightly as we work through it, and I can't give you a hard timeline on this, as there's a lot of work we need to do behind the scenes to get there. However, I can tell you that this is something we're actively spending a lot of effort on right now.
What are all your thoughts?
