Canada in Form Phone Validation

Greetings,

Field Settings - Validation - Phone. If you select Canada and save it. The form will display the United States. I went back into settings to double-check the settings were still set to Canada, while the manage form view displayed the United States.


Ultimately, my goal is to automate a dropdown with logic that presents the same country phone number with its area code. I have the logic down-packed; hopefully, the Canada bug I uncovered has a fix. Heads up, I tested 4 countries, and the logic worked for all four.

Thank you for posting your feedback; our team is currently working to improve phone number validation in forms. While we don’t have a set date for this yet, we are expecting to make updates before the end of the year.

  • @Genevieve P. - I'm not clear on what happens next. Am I waiting for my post to be seen by the developers? Is there a better way to manage these types of requests? Is there a ticketing system I can leverage? I'm just playing the waiting game here with no guarantees. Curious to find out if there is a more efficient way of going about this.

    The Product team reviews the top-voted posts in this category once a month and provides status updates on those ideas.

    For this specific request, Canada has the same validation structure as the US and the same +1 code, which is why the US flag is showing in the live form. Technically the validation works, but I understand wanting the preferred flag icon to show up (I'm Canadian and am very proud of our flag!) - this is why I moved your post to Product Feedback & Ideas. The more votes this post has, the more likely it is to be reviewed by Product and potentially inform their enhancement roadmap.

  • Having the same issue. We're a Canadian serving Non Profit. We do not serve the US, so it's confusing both within our branding and to our partners/clients to see a US flag (especially when I've changed the default to Canadian). It's been 2 years since the original post requesting this change. It may seem like a small thing, but to the eyes of our executives, if we can't do something as simple as put a default Canada flag for the phone number country code in a form, they won't want to use Smartsheet as platform for other things, regardless if it would be the perfect solution.

    Please don't leave Canadian users in the cold! We've been waiting a long time for this. It does cause confusion!

  • Upvoted! You'd be surprised at how often this gets brought up as a complaint about Smartsheet forms. I know that this bug doesn't technically prevent Canadians from leaving their phone contact info, but what it does do is make execs contact me several times a year asking why I set the wrong country on our public facing intake forms. Please help!

    In the current political environment this is becoming a large enough bug that we are considering discontinuing use of Smartsheet when forms are a required part of the solution. It is completely unacceptable that Smartsheet is ignoring this issue and not responding to its Canadian customers' needs. How hard is it to have the country selection determine the flag rather than the numbering plan determine it?

    This should not be listed as a feature request but as a bug/defect instead.

    If Canada wasn't an option, adding it as an option would be an feature request (enhancement).

    However, Canada is listed but reverts back to US. That behavior is a bug/defect, and should already be on the backlog for the development team.
