Setting up Alerts

We are running a number of different projects on a sheet that have a:

1) - Delivery Deadline (which is specified by the client), 

2) - Delivery Date (which is set by dependencies on our Production Schedule)

When Production is running late, the Delivery Date can end up later than the deadline. How can we set up an alert to notify someone if the Delivery Date is later than the Deadline Date?

Hi,

You must add a so-called helper column like a checkbox that gets checked when the above is true, and the alert would be triggered from that checkbox.

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s) or some screenshots? That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@getdone.se)

Hello Andree, if you need to check the checkbox manually, this defeats the purpose. As we have so many projects, each person responsible for a line item has their own report with their assigned tasks which is fed to and from this master sheet. Any change someone may make on their tasks may impact on the schedule which would likely be unnoticed. This is what we are trying to address by an automatic alert.

Am I missing something in your suggestion?

The checkbox would be checked automatically with the help of a formula when the rules above are true and that would trigger an alert.

Something along the lines of 

 

=IF([Delivery Date]@row > [Delivery Deadline]@row, 1)

 

in a checkbox column. This would automatically check the box when the Delivery Date exceeds the Delivery Deadline. You could then have your alerts sent out based on whether that box is checked or not.
