My favorite course was an Instructional Design class I took a few years ago. The instructor had us focus on building a solution that we could implement in our careers/everyday life. Tying the course material to a real-world application made all of the information so much more memorable and kept me super engaged!

The best course I have ever taken was a bootcamp class for the PMP from Project Management Institute. It was a great mix of learning the material and learning how to pass the test (which, let's be honest, is what we were all after). And it set me up for success in my project management career!

For me it goes all the way back to my undergrad at Marquette University. We had one particular course that was centered around an Intro to Philosophy, and was part of the Core of Common Studies at the time. Being a business & communication double major, I wasn't sure what I would get out of it. To my pleasant surprise, the course was excellent, and full of rich discussion amongst my classmates, the professor, and other peers he would bring in for specific topics. The methodology of reading together, in class, and then discussing those very ideologies in small groups & then amongst the larger class, was really gratifying. I think a lot had to do with the professor himself, who had a lot of gravitas and made the course fun, and most important of all, a judgement free zone.

One of the most inspiration courses I have taken was Emotional Intelligence from United Training.

One of my favorite classes was an intensive Scrum Master course a few years back. The trainer was so well prepared and curated engaging group activities that helped us all to work effectively with each other while learning scrum essentials. I walked away from the class really understanding how to effectively live out scrum in my job and obtaining my CSM certification. It was also a great way to network with other professionals based on how well the trainer had us working with each other.

My favorite course was called "Six Sigma" when I received my green belt certification for process improvement. It taught me that almost all processes and programs can be improved and to always look for ways to improve your environment by looking at how we do work. It taught me to never be complacent in my work and always strive to learn, adapt and improve myself and everything around me.

I originally studied to become an elementary school educator, which I did for five years before moving to the Ed Tech space. During my time at university, I took a course analyzing children's literature. We started with kindergarten-aged picture books and worked our way up to middle school level texts, diving deep into studying the books, their stories, and the lessons that could be learned from them. It was truly fascinating to conduct a collegiate-level evaluation of texts written for children, and I gained an immense amount of knowledge around how to choose and approach texts for my future students.

I participated in a Lean training with the Lean Six Sigma institute we learned effective methods to lean a company process and then applied it to a current situation in our company. Using this training we were able to develop tools to make our employees more efficient, reduce pain points, and ultimately increase team satisfaction.

It's hard to narrow it down to a favorite course. But one course that stands out was an Agile training course. I had already begun working Agile, but this class in particular opened my eyes up on how to do it better and more efficiently. It was time well spent.

I took some Networking courses back in 2017-2018 at a local community college and those really helped to accelerate my professional development. The professor was warm, kind, fair, and extremely knowledgeable and I would recommend her to anyone. The course was thorough without being overwhelming and at times was made fun as well. It was essentially the perfect blend of everything I look for and I've had precious few moments in my adult life where a course was like this.
This course led to me taking an networking admin position and finally moving out of customer service so for that I will be forever grateful.

Some of the BEST classes I've taken as an adult were over zoom. I took college classes over zoom or teams (especially during the pandemic), and the class was able to operate smoothly because the instructor had us write our questions during the class in the chat, and she could go over them at the end and discuss them with all of us in case we had the same question. The capability to divide the larger group into smaller focus groups for a learning project during class was also a powerful learning tool. I was quite amazed at how we powered through the pandemic and distancing requirements with a little innovation and technology. Amazing. :)

My favorite course was back at the beginning of my carrier, where I learned how to speak in public.
Since then I've always been the one providing training for new users, new colleagues at work, even though it's not my area, but it describes who I am.

I took a college level course titled the physics of astronomy, it was an amazing course but I learned that my place was in the biological sciences, haha, I barely made it through the course, so different that anything I had ever attempted to learn!
