Dropdown List Multiselect Feature Request
I would like to submit a Smartsheet feature request that will allow users to do a "Multiselect" for a Column type of "Dropdown list".
At the moment the only way I can do something similar is to create multiple checkbox columns, which makes the sheet hard to use due to all the extra columns.
In Smartsheet today, you can only select one option from a Dropdown list like this:
But it would be great if it were possible to select multiple items from the Dropdown list like this:
The only way I can achieve something similar today is to use multiple checkbox columns, but that is cumbersome and takes up too much space. Like this:
Thanks,
David

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll pass your feedback along
Just a note - you can manually type in multiple items in a single cell and separate them with a comma.

Yes, PLEASE!

I'd like to add another request for this feature. The current option of manually type in multiple items in a single cell and separate them with a comma doesn't work for users who need to have specific options offered.
Thanks for considering.

I need this feature as well. Especially for my webforms.

Travis is there any update that you can provide to this feature request as it is a very much needed tool.

Hi Sherri, while this functionality does not exist in Smartsheet, there are a couple of workarounds.
On a Form, you could do the following:
1. Create separate checkbox columns for each answer
2. When designing the Form, create a Heading/Description section divider (found under Add Field) with the Question text as either the Heading or Description.
3. Add each of the answer columns as fields below the section divider.
4. On each of the checkbox fields change the Display Type to have 'Caption to the right'.
Doing the above will simulate a multi-select option for a question.
Another idea is to use Google Forms instead, as Google does support multi-select form questions. We have a Google add-on called Smartsheet Sync that saves submissions of your Google Form in a new sheet in Smartsheet so you can still collaborate and action on the items using our platform. To get started with this, check out instructions for building a Google Form here, and instructions for installing and using the Smartsheet Sync add-on for Google Forms here.

Great suggestions Travis.

I have added your votes, Jorge and Jacque!

I would love this feature to be added!

I would like to add another endorsement to this. Please roll this out, Smartsheet!

I would love this option too!

Add me in. A dropdown list which can pull from another dynamic list, and a dynamic list which reduces the list based on selection of another cell.

Billy - While not built in, you can pull dropdown lists dynamically from columns in sheets using a third party tool - Azuqua. This is a paid service but is extremely powerful and if your company has a budget for it, it could be useful for this and other workflows.
Here's more information on Azuqua: https://www.smartsheet.com/apps/azuqua
