Can a person not shared to a sheet participate in proofing activities?
The help info is not super helpful in answering this specific question. Can I send a proof to someone not shared to a sheet? Do they need to have the sheet shared with them in order to interact with proofing?

Hi,
No, you don't have to be shared with the sheet to interact with proofing. But they will have to have a Smartsheet login.
The first time you send them a proofing request it will ask them to create an account. They can then take part in proofing, without accessing the underlying sheet.

I have also had issues with trying to share a proof without sharing the sheet. I have only tried this as tests so far, however the people I have tried this with have managed to be able to see the sheet. I have tried to look for videos but not found anything that gives you the instructions on how to share the proof without sharing the sheet. Please can anyone help me?

Can you describe how you're sharing the Proof?
The "Invite" button should only invite reviewers to the external proof page, and not to the sheet (unless they also have access to the sheet).
See: Request review and approval
Let me know if this helped!
Cheers,
Genevieve

tagging onto this conversation - our outside proofers often add a question in the proof, they are @ people but when the designer replies the outside proofer, the outside proofer does not get notified. They have accounts, but the free user as they only proof with our company. Is this correct - can they not receive conversational notifications in a proof?

@mention functionality is specific to the underlying sheet, not to the proof review page. This means in order to receive the @mention notification, they would need to be shared to the underlying sheet. Does that make sense?
Please feel free to add your vote and voice to this Idea: Proof notifications - Allow @mention notifications on Proofs to users not shared to sheet
